I lost count of all the laptops I have broken because I unintentionally lowered them further than they could go, or I sat on them. Yeah, leaving an open laptop on the chair to attend to something else is my occupational hazard.

Seriously though, do you ever wish you could twist, flip or detach your laptop’s display so you can comfortably binge-watch Netflix, browse, or read? You can invest in multiple gadgets to meet different needs, or pick up the best detachable laptop and enjoy its versatility.

Sounds like a plan? Check out our list of cool and functional detachable laptops.

1. Microsoft Surface Book 3

“best detachable laptop”

  • Stunning display
  • Spacious and comfortable keyboard
  • Good graphical power
  • Long battery life
  • Lacks a Numpad
  • Tiny touchpad

Surface Book 3 is a premium machine that in my opinion sets the standards for the best detachable laptops. It has a stunning display that’s paired with a good processor, plenty of storage, great battery life, and one of the best keyboards on the market. All these features merge to give you excellent work and entertainment experience.

Surface Book 3 is powered by the high-end 10th generational Core i7-1065G7 processor that consumes less power and minimizes overheating while handling power-intensive tasks. It supports faster system memory, in this case, the 32GB of RAM for lighting fast launches, multitasking, and booting.

Paired with 512GB SSD storage, this hybrid is capable of daily computing tasks such as office document editing, web browsing, multimedia consumption. It can also run heavier tasks like professional photo editing or video production, making it an excellent device for creatives too.

Surface Book 3 weighs 3.62lb, keyboard included. By any standards, this is a lightweight machine, and when you detach the keyboard, you have an even lighter device. It will fit easily in a bag or sleeve for on the go productivity or entertainment.

The battery life is solid. You get up to 17.5 hours of video playback, which means any lighter tasks like browsing or office applications may give you even more time. It’s plenty of time if you need to be away from a power source.

The platinum-colored laptop with its rounded edges looks as beautiful as it is sturdy, thanks to its magnesium casing. A fulcrum hinge connects the machine’s base to the screen and there is a dedicated button on the keyboard for detaching the display

I love the PixelSense display with its 3240 x 2160 resolution. The images are incredibly clear, bright and the colors simply pop. Watching videos, light gaming, and doing creative projects on this machine is an absolute joy.

Dedicated graphics isn’t something you find in most 13-inch laptops or detachable laptops for that matter, yet the Surface Book 3 comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 that handles many modern games with ease.

Other Considerations

The keyboard doesn’t just detach, you can fold it behind the display giving you more ways to use this machine. The keyboard is very spacious with good key travel making it one of the most comfortable keyboards to use. The touchpad is somewhat tiny but it’s smooth and responsive.

To connect to peripherals, you have one USB Type-C port, two USB Type-A ports, a full-size card reader, a headphone jack, and two Surface Connects. Internal connections include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 technology

Bottom Line

Undoubtedly Surface Book 3 is a svelte machine packed with useful specs that are ideal for business owners, executes, and content creators looking for a detachable laptop for daily use. It’s highly portable, built using high-quality materials, and has a great battery life that will keep you going long after other machines have shut down.

If you’re a creative professional who relies on Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop to get your job done, the Surface Pro 7 delivers a full desktop experience, running Windows 10 programs with ease. It’s an excellent tool for creatives who don’t want to be stuck with Android or iOS apps and prioritize portability and the ability to work from any place.

The 10th Generation Core i5-1035G4 processor found on this machine is an upper mid-range chip loved for its power efficiency and cooler operation. With support for faster system memory, day to day tasks like browsing, document editing, and even video works seamlessly.

Paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD storage allows you to install intensive apps like Photoshop and access them with ease. Working with the Surface Pen (bought separately) is smooth as the machine keeps up with your movements without noticeable lag.

We creatives understand the need for an on-hand device that you can quickly jot down or sketch your ideas before they become blurred or forgotten. The Surface Pro 7 weighs a paltry 1.7lb which makes it highly portable and perfect for on the go creativity

The laptop offers up to 10.5 hours of battery life unplugged. It’s a lot of time to get work done or enjoy some downtime before you need to reach for the charger. But, running intensive programs will eat into your battery life, so keep the charger close by for precaution’s sake.

Just like the Surface Book 3, the Surface Pro 7 sports a platinum-colored case with smoothly rounded edges for comfort. It looks very sleek and expensive. The black Type Cover attaches to the bottom of the tablet section magnetically.

With 2736 x 1824 screen resolution, the colors are rich, vibrant and the images look superb. The display offers up to 98% of the sRGB and 79% of AdobeRGB, so in terms of color space, things are pretty good but the shading may not be very fine. The integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics are great for light gaming but may not be the best for 3D-accelerated programs.

Other Considerations

The laptop comes with a sturdy kickstand for propping the device while in use. I found that it works more effectively on a flat surface than on my lap. Plus, reclining the device to studio mode is really great for sketching and taking notes.

Although the Type Cover is quite thin, it offers a comfortable typing experience with solid key travel. Plus, it is backlit which is perfect for those late-night projects. The touchpad is very responsive and tracks movements smoothly.

Connectivity options are quite limited on this machine as you get one Type-C port and one Type-A port but thanks to Bluetooth connectivity you can connect to more peripherals. Wi-Fi connection is also available here.

Bottom Line

This laptop is a wonderful option for creatives who need a machine that can run full versions of illustrator and Photoshop. It’s stylish, lightweight, and a nice way to stay on top of your email and admin stuff too.

Best detachable laptop can only support light gaming but not the Mothership from ASUS. It comes with an insanely powerful processor and graphics card among other high-end specs to support whatever AAA games you throw at it. And it looks badass too.

Powering this baby is the 9th generation Core i9 i9-9980HK, a high-end powerful and overclockable chip that fulfills the dreams of dedicated gamers. Not only can it handle demanding games and applications smoothly, but it’s also future-proof. I must say this processor is a high power consumption chip that requires a solid cooling system.

Coupled with 128GB of RAM and 1.5 SSD storage, performance is off the charts. You’ll enjoy snappy launches and copy large amounts of data with ease. Actually, this hybrid laptop is an excellent option for people who work with large audio or video files or animations.

With its keyboard attached, the Mothership weighs a whopping 106 pounds. This weight is quite substantial so I recommend stationing the laptop in one place and only moving it when necessary. But if your back is up to the task, you can slip it into a bag and get on the road.

Like most gaming laptops, the battery life isn’t so good. It gave up around 3 hours of normal use, think web browsing and video. So gaming will slash that time by half or more. I highly recommend keeping your charge in very close proximity or avoiding the whole unplugged use story.

The machine is built using black brushed aluminum that feels very sturdy. The back of the display sports multiple lettering-like slots configured in a geometric pattern that looks futuristic and alien. These slots are actually vents that aid cooling.

The display connects to the keyboard via hinges and I fiddled around for several minutes before the two sections connected properly. The 1920 x 1080 screen resolution delivers clarity and warm realistic colors which make for a good visual experience. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 provides excellent response times allowing you to play games like Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3, and Borderlands 3 without breaking a sweat.

Other Considerations

The Mothership is rather interesting since you have to prop it first for the automatic kickstand to deploy before you can open it up. The kickstand is quite sturdy and provides strong support for the display. Once you detach the keyboard, you can let lie flat or fold it further into a wireless device.

The keyboard comes with island-style keys that are big and well-spaced, except for the arrow keys which feel rather cramped. Even so, you get a bouncy feel and excellent feedback while typing, and the keys are RGB-lit with multiple customization settings. On the side of this keyboard is a built-in trackpad that doubles as a numeric keypad, pretty fancy don’t you think?

There are plenty of connectivity options here. You get three USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, two USB Type-C ports (Thunderbolt 3 / DisplayPort), one SD card reader, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a mic-in, and an audio combo. Internal connections include Wi-Fi, LAN, and Bluetooth 5.0 technology.

Bottom Line

The Mothership is a superb high-end best detachable laptop that caters to gamers looking for more than just the usual in a portable machine. It offers stellar performance for modern and demanding games, speedy response times, good viewing angles, and plenty of connectivity ports.

Battery life is pretty much everything in a mobile device. Well, there are other important things but the battery determines how long you can stay productive or entertained without looking for the nearest power outlet. With the Surface Pro 6, you get over 13 hours of battery life which is as robust as they come.

Under the hood, you’ll find the 8th Generation Core i5-8250U processor coupled with 8GB of RAM to give you fast computing services. From web browsing to multimedia playback and working on office applications, the machine delivers a glitch-free experience. We opened 20  tabs on the Chrome browser and moved through them seamlessly.

128GB SSD storage feels a little low but for mainstream use, it’s more than enough. You should have plenty of space to store your files, ebooks, photos, and a couple of videos.

At 1.7lb (without the Type Cover), this best detachable laptop is lightweight and portable. You can carry it in one hand which makes it perfect for staff taking inventories, executives carrying on presentations, doctors dealing with multiple patient files, shoppers, students, and creatives. And just so you know, the Type Cover isn’t very heavy and won’t add much weight to the display.

The battery life is robust and one of the key reasons why you should pick up this hybrid. 13.5 hours is more than enough for a day’s work and even affords you a couple of extra hours for some entertainment.

Surface Pro 6 is available in platinum and black colors and both exude class and quality. Thanks to the magnesium body, the display feels very sturdy. The display connects to the Type Cover magnetically. Bring the two close together and they click in place.

The 12.3-inch display features a 2736 x 1824 resolution that provides remarkably sharp, bright, and colorful images. Watching movies on this display feels like a dream, as it captures the most minute of detail and in the best colors ever. The integrated UHD 620 graphics can handle casual games like Dirt 3 with ease.

Other Considerations

The Surface Pro 6 comes with a sturdy kickstand that extends 165 degrees allowing you to use the machine in studio mode. This is one of the best angles for drawing, sketching, or taking notes.

The Alcantara Type Cover has spacious and cushy keys with good travel for a comfortable typing experience. The touchpad is large and executes commands with precision. If you don’t want to detach the keyboard, you can flip it and instantly get into tablet mode. In this situation, the Type Cover doesn’t recognize or execute any input.

Surface Pro 6 doesn’t come with many connectivity options. You only get one USB 3.0 port, one headphone jack, microSDXC card reader, a Mini DisplayPort, one Surface Connect port, and the Type Cover port.

Bottom Line

This ultra-portable detachable laptop is a great option for business executives and other professionals including students looking for a device with good battery life. It’s durable, chic, and light enough to carry in your hands or usual bag. Want to stay productive or entertained for hours, check out the Surface Pro 6.

Are you picky about the screen resolution, can’t stand grainy images, poor viewing angles, or washed out colors? Surface Book 2 was designed for the discerning user providing an incredibly rich and colorful display for both work and play. Oh and one that you and those next to you will enjoy viewing.

Here you’ll find the 8th Generation Core i7-8650U processor preferred for business laptops due to its power efficiency, enhanced security, and fast response. It works with 16GB of RAM to facilitate seamless operations and great multitasking abilities. You can browse, video chat, or listen to music while working on a couple of chrome browser tabs.

512 SSD storage provides speedy file retrievals and allows you plenty of space for your work, study, and personal files.

Surface Book 2 tips the scales at 3.62lb including the keyboard. Detach it, and you have an even lighter device to carry around. This hybrid checks the boxes on our portability list and is definitely suitable for on the go productivity, just throw it into your bag or sleeve.

Our battery life test revealed that this baby can run all day while it’s attached to the base. Yes, you read that right, because it gave us just over 13 hours of use. When detached, the display is only good for up to four hours. So if you want to leave the keyboard home, carry the charger.

Like the Surface Book 3 featured in this review, Surface Book 2 has a fulcrum hinge that docks onto the screen and detaches with a click. The machine has a magnesium casing, perfectly rounded edges and is available in silver. Overall, it looks very stylish and can fit in the business and social environments.

The 13.5-inch PixelSense screen carries all the magic. With 3,000 x 2,000 resolution and excellent contrast ratios, everything looks absolutely stunning. Blacks are blacks, colors are rich and vivid, while the images are rendered with awesome clarity. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 is a treat allowing you to play a couple of titles on medium or low settings.

Other Considerations

The fulcrum hinge on this laptop feels more sturdy and durable and doesn’t let the Surface Book close completely. But then, it also lets you angle the display without the machine tipping over, and that’s a good thing.

The keyboard is backlit for convenience and the keys are properly spaced. However, the key travel feels shallow and may take some getting used to. Even so, the keys feel great and offer satisfying clicks as you type. The trackpad also feels smooth and responsive.

Like most Surface models, connectivity options aren’t varied. You get one 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 port and a USB Type-C port. There is a headphone jack, a full-size card reader, and two Surface Connect ports. Internally, there is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 connection.

Bottom Line

Creatives, people in the real estate business, and other professionals who need to showcase details of their projects in the right color may profit immensely from using Surface Book 2. Thanks to its feature-rich display and great viewing angles that keep images from distorting. Plus it’s lightweight and has a battery that won’t let you down.

If you’re tired of the slim pickings found on Microsoft Store then a detachable laptop running on the Chrome operating system is what you need. This Lenovo Chrome Duet gives you access to the world’s largest digital marketplace – the Android app ecosystem. Your biggest worry will be running out of storage space.

The Lenovo Chromebook Duet is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60T processor. A power-efficient upper mainstream chip used mainly in Android smartphones. Working with 4GB of RAM gives you the right amount of power for web browsing, office applications, and video streaming without hiccups.

However, I don’t recommend loading more than a handful of Chrome tabs otherwise the laptop will become quite slow. The machine comes with 64GB SSD storage which can store up to several apps and files, just be mindful of their sizes.

On its own the tablet weighs 1pound while combining it with the keyboard and cover, the weight goes up to 2.03 pounds. It’s still lightweight and portable by any standards. It’s the perfect size for an airline tray table, so air travel doesn’t have to be boring or uncomfortable.

The battery life is good for over 10 hours unplugged and I know people whose devices have lasted even longer. So this is a solid machine if you need to work away from a power source.

The gray-colored Chromebook Duet has a minimalistic charm about it largely caused by the absence of too many ports or buttons along its sides. It has a gray fabric kickstand and keyboard which attach to the screen magnetically.

The 10.1-inch screen is one of the smallest we’ve seen in best detachable laptops and sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution. It offers rich and well-saturated colors and good sharpness, which is fantastic for reading ebooks or watching videos. The Integrated ARM G72 MP3 Graphics supports light Android gaming.

Other Considerations

I noticed that the kickstand and keyboard tend to pull apart from the display easily and in some cases unintentionally. It’s not a deal-breaker, rather a nuisance as you have to pay extra attention to ensure you don’t knock anything out of place. I must say that the laptop doesn’t feel flimsy in any way and you can use it on your thighs or a flat surface.

The keyboard is usable, but somewhat small which can make typing a tad bit difficult especially if you have larger hands. It has shallow key travel so you may want to use this laptop for writing emails and texts, rather than long reports. The trackpad is functional and reasonably responsive.

The machine comes with only one USB Type-C port which can present a challenge when you want to connect to multiple peripherals. Available internal connections come in the form of Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi.

Bottom Line

The Chromebook Duet brings to the table a mix of functionality, longevity, and portability. Access to Android apps makes it a good choice for students, business executives, and casual users in need of more power than their smartphone can provide.

The HP Spectre x2 detachable laptop is perfect for growing kids who need to research, work on their essays, interact with teachers/other students, and have some fun when school is over.

The 6th Gen Intel Core M7-6Y75 processor powers this machine. It’s a power-efficient chip that teams up with 8GB of RAM to perfectly handle your day to day computing chores. Your kids will be able to use productivity apps such as word and excel, surf the web or engage in multimedia playback (at the appropriate time)without hiccups.

The machine ships with 128GB SSD storage space for fast retrieval of files, booting, and app launches. You’ll also have plenty of storage space for school work and personal files.

As with most best detachable laptops on this list, Spectre x2 checks portability boxes. It weighs 2.66lb when it’s attached to the base and 1.84lb without it. This weight is comfortable enough for the kids to carry from one room to another and will fit nicely in their school bags if they need to take the laptop to school.

So how much battery life does a school-going kid require? Your guess is as good as mine. The machine offers up to 10 hours unplugged which is plenty for any child to use for serious stuff or entertainment.

Spectre x2 has an eye-catching aluminum design and silver finish that gives it an attractive and premium look. The screen and keyboard attach magnetically. They come together quite easily and you don’t need to apply too much pressure to separate them.

The the12-inch screen is a sweet spot for many detachable laptops and houses a 1920 x 1280 resolution that delivers beautiful images and sharp texts to support reading or media consumption needs. While the integrated Intel HD Graphics 515 supports casual gaming like cards or candy crush.

Other Considerations

The stainless steel kickstand complements the laptop’s clean look and it opens up when you press a button on the side of the machine. You can then manually position it to suit your viewing needs.

The aluminum keyboard feels very sturdy. The deck is spacious and the keys feel bouncy and give satisfying clicks when you type. The travel is somewhat shallow but it doesn’t take away from the comfortable typing experience. The touchpad feels solid and accurately executes commands.

This device comes with two Type-C USB ports, a headphone/mic combo jack, one microSD card slot, and one Verizon SIM card slot. The manufacturer throws in an HP USB-C adapter to facilitate connection to USB accessories. For internal connections, you get Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Bottom Line

Spectre x2 is a beautiful machine with a fresh look and quality construction designed to withstand use by kids or many members of your family. It’s fast enough to meet day to day needs of school going kids including online learning. And when they want to relax, it’s a simple matter of detaching the screen and enjoying the tablet version.

From sketching, to drawing, taking notes, or annotating documents, a digital pen is a necessary tool if you want to fully enjoy the benefits of your detachable screen. Unfortunately, most styluses are sold separately, adding to the cost of an already expensive device, but not with this laptop.

The HP Envy is one of the few detachable laptops that comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor normally found on Android smartphones. This processor is power-efficient and more importantly provides more battery life than you’ll find on regular laptops.

The processor is bundled with 4GB of RAM for daily computing tasks like office applications, browsing, and watching videos, but may not work for video or photo editing tasks. Opening too many Chrome tabs can lead to noticeable lag. The machine ships with 128GB SSD storage space for your files.

Both tablet and base weigh 2.67lb while the tablet weighs 1.54lb. Whether you choose to carry the whole machine or the tablet section only, the device is lightweight and won’t strain your wrists. Plus, it will fit easily in your sleeve or bag.

As mentioned earlier, the Snapdragon 835 processor brings with it a seriously long life. Think 22 hours unplugged. This is pretty close to an entire day and night of use without flinching. I guess I won’t be pressuring you to carry the charger this time (haha).

This best detachable laptop is made using aluminum alloy with smooth edges and a silver finish. It looks classy and business-like and feels sturdy too. The wrap-around leather case protects the screen and doubles as a stand. A docking connector magnetically brings the display and keyboard together and there’s a fabric loop for clipping on the stylus.

I love the 12.3-inch Gorilla Glass display that is scratch-resistant allowing you to sketch, draw, or touch the screen without worry. The 1920 x 1280 resolution provides a high level of detail and color to make your drawings or media consumption more enjoyable to view. Integrated Qualcomm Adreno 540 GPU supports casual gaming.

Other Considerations

The included HP Digital Pen has a pressure-sensitive tip that imitates the feel of a pen to paper. It’s great for shading, drawing, coloring, and just about everything a digital pen can do.

The keyboard is a joy to use. The keys are well-spaced, have a deep travel and satisfying click, you’ll enjoy working with them, and type for hours without experiencing fatigue. The touchpad is spacious, smooth, and offers accurate tracking.

The machine offers one USB Type-C port, a media card reader, a headphone/mic combo jack, and a Nano-Sim Card Slot. it’s not much, but it’s workable. Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity is available.

Bottom Line

With active pen support, this detachable laptop is great for mainstream users who love using digital pens in their day to day tasks. Its scratch-resistant screen ensures durability while the long-lasting battery promotes use on the move.

For corporate users who spend more time traveling than they do at their desks, we front this Dell Latitude 13 as a laptop replacement. From IT manageability to good battery life, versatility, and portability, this detachable laptop is designed to keep you productive at all times.

The Intel M-5Y71 powering this laptop is an ultra-low voltage processor that’s sufficient for office applications and multimedia as well. Working WITH 4GB of RAM gives the machine the capacity to multitask seamlessly. You can have a couple of Chrome tabs open as you listen to music in the background.

With 128GB SSD storage, you can copy files, launch apps, or boot the machine fast. The speed can come in handy when you’re conducting a meeting. You’ll also have plenty of space for storing your work files.

Weighing in at 3.67lb, the laptop is fairly lightweight and these travel-friendly dimensions mean that you can slip it into your sleeve or bag for easy transportation. Detached, the tablet only weighs 1.92lb allowing you to move around the office with your device in hand.

The battery life is around 10 hours between recharges which can come in handy when you’re on the road responding to emails or finalizing that report/presentation. And as long as you remember to charge it fully beforehand, you won’t have to worry about your device dying on you.

Typical of business laptops, the Latitude 13 feels understated sporting a dark-gray aluminum casing and black deck. It’s a safe design for strict environments and you won’t have to worry about breaking protocol. The tablet latches to the base via beefy hinges that connect with a satisfying click

The 13.3-inch screen gives you more screen space compared to the 10-inch and 12-inch options we see on the market. It has a 1920 x 1080 resolution that is vivid, sharp, and generally pleasant to look at. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 5300 is powerful enough to handle a couple of games on medium settings.

Other Considerations

Most laptop users can attest to coffee or soda spills and ruined machines so I’m glad for the spill-proof keyboard. Backlighting on the keyboard can be a useful feature when you are giving a presentation in a darkened room or engaging in late-night last-minute touch-ups.

The deck is roomy and the slightly curved keys feel springy, and clicky when you type on them. If you need to write a report or send out some emails, you’ll find this keyboard quite comfortable. The spacious touchpad is responsive allowing you to mouse around websites smoothly.

The tablet has a headset jack, AC power adapter port, and a Noble security cable port while the base houses two USB 3.0 ports, a Mini DisplayPort, an SD card reader, and a Noble security lock port. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are available for internal connectivity.

We recommend carrying the whole device on your business trips to ensure that you can interface seamlessly with wired displays or any USB flash memory keys your client may be using.

Bottom Line

Dell Latitude 13 combines the portability and touchscreen features of a tablet with the productivity of a regular laptop to give you a true replacement device for your business use. Whether you’re reading, typing, or sharing information, this hybrid is a capable machine that will help you get your job done.

If you are on a tight budget, you’ll quickly realize that the best detachable laptops are quite expensive. If you’re on a budget, you’ll quickly realize how slim your options are. Because the best detachable laptops can be quite pricey. This Asus Transformer Book is a clear indication that a good laptop doesn’t have to cost a lung. It’s affordable, functional, and highly portable.

The Asus Transformer Book is powered by the power-efficient Intel CHERRY Trail Quad Core x5-Z8350 commonly found in tablet and convertible devices. Coupled with 4GB of RAM, the processor allows you to tackle everyday tasks like email, browsing, and office applications seamlessly.

That said, the machine doesn’t support complex software and will stutter when you try to play modern games.  Here you get 64GB storage, yes, it is on the lower side but ASUS more than makes up for this by offering a year’s worth of unlimited cloud storage on the ASUS WebStorage.

The tablet weighs 2.38lb with the keyboard attached. You can comfortably carry the machine around the house, to your favorite coffee shop, work, or even college. The device weighs much less when you detach the display from the keyboard. Considering its small footprint, it will take little space wherever you store it.

With 11 hours of unplugged use, this machine supports the active and busy lifestyles of users who don’t spend too much time near a power outlet. Whether you’re out shopping, in class, or watching your favorite movie, the battery will hold up for longer than most regular laptops.

The machine is built with an aluminum body for durability. It has smoothly finished angular sides, a slightly-pebble like texture, and sports a gray color. It looks pretty neutral which is not such a bad thing as it can fit in any environment. The bezels are thick and stick out so much, they could use major trimming.

The 10.1-inch screen has a 1280 x 800  resolution which feels kind of low but this is a small screen and it uses IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology which makes the images and texts sharper and vibrant. And you get wide viewing angles too. The Intel HD Graphics 400 is decent for playing games on low settings.

Other Considerations

The tablet connects to the base magnetically, which should be a straightforward thing, but some users report that it takes several seconds to line up the connectors. However, the connection is sturdy and once everything snaps in place, the machine becomes very stable

The keyboard is rather small as are the keys but they are comfortable to use. You get a deep key travel with a nice bouncy feel that you’ll enjoy tying on it. The trackpad is comfortable to use, smooth, and responsive to commands.

The tablet houses a USB Type-C port, a micro-HDMI socket, a microSD slot, and a mic/headphone combo jack. You get an extra full-sized USB Type-A port on the keyboard. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity options are also present.

Bottom Line

This entry-level detachable laptop is an excellent option for students and casual users on a budget. It’s cheap, lightweight has a good battery life, and handles both work and social tasks pretty well. It may not replace your desktop entirely but it’s a stepping stone.

Consider before buying best detachable laptop

Microsoft Surface laptops have dominated the detachable laptop segment for years, perfecting the art of manufacturing these machines over time. Today, more mainstream brands have developed detachable machines widening your choices, but you’ll also find some obscure names fronting these machines as well.

It makes sense to go beyond the fancy looks and explore features that will ensure you enjoy using the laptop, be it for work or entertainment. Here are some considerations to keep in mind:

1. Screen Size

The first thing I need to point out here is, don’t go looking for the 15.6-inch screens we find on regular laptops. The screen size on most detachable laptops is limited to under 12-inches for enhanced portability. That said, some have ventured beyond this size, but most users indicate that using these larger screens in tablet mode is cumbersome.

2. Resolution and Graphics Power

While the screen size is a matter of reference, resolution, and graphics are all about productivity. The screen resolution varies from the low-end 1366 x 768 to the high-end 2736 x 1824 and everything in between. If you desire sharper and clearer images, then stick to 1920 x 1080 resolutions or higher, otherwise, the 1366 x 768 resolution will work just fine.

Most detachable laptops rely on integrated graphics which are great for daily computing tasks and gaming on medium settings. There are notable exceptions like the HIDevolution ASUS ROG Mothership that comes with dedicated RTX 2080 graphics for greater productivity or gaming capacity.

3. Connectivity Options

To keep detachable laptops thinner and lighter, developers continue to reduce the number of ports on these babies. Although several laptops still rely on conventional USB ports to connect to peripherals, we’re seeing machines that feature only one or two Type-C ports for convenient connections

As such, it will be vital for you to consider your connectivity needs and ensure your preferred device can accommodate them.

4. Operating System

Windows 10 sounds like an obvious choice and you’ll find the OS on many laptops, but is it the best option for you?

Windows OS is an all-round platform that’s compatible with a vast array of hardware making it possible for users to work with powerful software for content creation, computer-aided design, or playing graphically-intense games. Plus, it works with most third-party add ons including storage devices, mice, keyboards, printers, and monitors

Chrome OS, on the other hand, gives you access to a huge library of apps on the Google Play Store. It’s perfect for streaming music and videos, browsing, chatting, video conferencing, and Google’s office applications. It’s a fantastic alternative for students or those working on a limited budget.

5. Keyboard

Although the main advantage of a detachable laptop is being able to separate the display from the physical keyboard, the latter remains an integral part of the machine. If you plan on using the laptop for typing, a lot, then a cramped keyboard will not work.

I have watched some of my writer friends abandon new laptops because of poor typing experiences. From constantly hitting the wrong keys to typing errors, it was such a mess. So, ensure your keyboard has a spacious and comfortable deck for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.
