I have also analysed expert reviews and user opinions to see what they were saying about these models. Best Gaming Laptops Under $700 – Top 10 Picks

  • Up to 9-hours of battery life

Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP is a gaming laptop with power-packed performance and comes in a stylish ultra-thin all sturdy metal design. It includes an unmistakable combination of speed, efficiency, and power thanks to AMD Ryzen 7 Quad-Core processor and an 8GB onboard memory making it the best overall gaming laptop under 700.

Processor

Behind the sleek all-metal body is an AMD Ryzen 7 Quad-Core processor, 8GB of RAM, making it a clear winner in this category. It comes with a storage memory of 256GB SSD, which is relatively commonplace. Besides, Intel chips dominate the best gaming laptops in the market, making it debatable whether AMD can ever be genuinely a competitive laptop chip unless for budget devices.

Additionally, you can classify this gaming notebook in a reliable range of mobile Ryzen CPUs with a base clock of 2GHz and a maximum boost clock of 3.6GHz claiming a superior performance. The processor supports simultaneous multithreading where each core can process two threads. However, several tests from expert reviews agree that this notebook is not suitable for continuous CPU computation.

Besides, it claims to have a Turbo which is barely active with a 32-bit multi-score which fall behind the Geekbench and browser benchmarks. Behind the sleek metallic body, this gaming notebook includes a new 2.5-inch drive although it lacks a mounting frame which can be purchased separately.

Display and Graphics

The dedicated graphics in this model allows for gaming in a limited capacity. Acer included an AMD Radeon RX 540 dedicated graphics in a 15.6-inch FHD IPS display making it a resolutely middle-market offering. When compared to NVIDIA graphics that are in most mid-range gaming laptops, the CPU and GPU underperforms when prolonged for a long time.

Besides, the 15.6-inch display with a native resolution 1920×1080 pixels has brightness values that are too low, and the display exhibits screen flickering with a frequency of 1471Hz. However, the SF315-41G-R6MP screen includes wide viewing angles of 178 degrees, which shouldn’t cause any straining on the eyes or a headache after extended use. Additionally, Acer included a robust screen that includes a durable Corning Gorilla glass to withstand years of abuse.

Weight and Battery Life

Acer the SF315-41G-R6MP is a thin and lightweight model that measures 0.74-inches making it a suitable choice for the frequent traveler. In terms of physical attributes, it features an aluminum flair that is cool to the touch giving it a personality.

Also, it comes equipped with a 48Wh battery, but I didn’t get to assess how long it can take you when fully charged. However, Acer claims this unit has a battery life of 9 hours on a single charge.

Pros
  • Stylish design
  • Sturdy casing
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • The ports are well positioned
Cons
  • Mediocre battery life
  • Slow card reader
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 3.8GHz AMD Ryzen 7
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: Flash Memory Solid State
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 540
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 4.62 pounds
  • Battery Life: 9 Hours

Bottom Line

This laptop gives us a reasonably mixed experience in terms of performance, especially when playing the latest games. Besides, the AMD Vega 3D Core graphics are somewhat patchy plus the hardware needs a little tweak to give cooling a final polish. However, not all is gloom as this unit is solid with an excellent IPS panel and a firm feel on its keyboard performance.

Dell G3 15 packs a punch of performance, a long battery life, thin chassis, and loudspeakers. It’s a very affordable model with crisp and accurate visuals making it a suitable choice for general use,  personal work, and casual gaming. Besides, if you’re considering purchasing this unit, it provides you with premium looks and sturdiness to serve you a long time.

Processor

Dell G3 15 features an Intel Core i5-8300H Processor which includes 8th Generation Quad-Core, and 8MB Hoard, of up to 4.0GHz to handle Shadow of War. When I open 30 tabs in Google Chrome and run a video stream in the background, it picked up well. Unlike the Acer the SF315-41G-R6MP, this unit scored a solid 13,227 on the Geekbench for overall performance.

The Coffee Lake CPUs included in this model supports hyperthreading meaning that it can utilize available CPUs to maximize efficiency and performance keeping pace with the previous generation Core i7 processors. Despite being an entry-level gaming laptop, it includes a 1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid hard drive representing excellent value for the money.

Graphics and Display

Cheap laptops always fall somewhere. Although it’s not a 144Hz unit, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with dedicated GDDR5 graphics RAM with a capacity of 4GB making it sturdy enough to battle Royale titles and run AAA games efficiently but at lower settings. Besides, we may not consider the GeForce GTX 1050 in the top of the range graphics as it sits at the bottom of NVIDIA’s line of GTX series 10.

The IPS technology included in this 15-inch model claims outstanding viewing angles, although the 1920×1080 screen is dim to some extent. Moreover, when tilted up and down, it dims the image a bit barely hitting our 250nit standard when tested for gaming laptops in this category.

I spent a few minutes on this model, using 10fastfingers.com typing test, and it allowed me to get a feel of the keyboard which is relatively standard as the laptop goes with a suave flat keyboard and sharp tactile bumps. Another cool feature is the four separate panels included in the keyboard that backlights individual key.

Weight and Battery Life

This gaming notebook is offensively heavy and thick at 8.14 pounds compared to Acer Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP model, which is almost half its weight. It looks a lot nicer but doesn’t look particularly sexy with a standard set of function-enabled hotkeys and a trackpad that sits directly below the spacebar.

It boasts a 4 Cell 56 Whr battery that six hours and 36 minutes of continuous web browsing at 150nits of brightness making it a suitable choice for gaming enthusiast looking for a gaming laptop that they can carry along.

Pros
  • Solid performance
  • Excellent battery life
  • Responsive keyboard and touchpad
  • Decent audio
Cons
  • Dull and deem display
  • No gaming utilities
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 8th Generation 4 GHz Intel Core i5
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 1 TB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10500
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 8.14 pounds
  • Battery Life: 6 Hours

Bottom line

Dell G3 15 series is a reasonably priced gaming laptop built to cope with the most demanding games. It also comes equipped with a snappy processor and a GTX 1050 Ti GPU, stable battery life and comfortable indoor viewing angles at the 250nit display. However, if you’re a gaming enthusiast looking for the crisp and detailed sound, this model includes inbuilt speakers that won’t offer you crisp, clear sound on the headset.

  • 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD; 8GB DDR4 RAM....

Asus TUF FX504 strikes the right balance between performance and value. It’s a 17-inch model that falls in the mid-range category of gaming laptops aimed for the passionate gamer with a decent budget. Its equipped with Intel’s latest Coffee Lake CPUs and a dedicated NVIDIA that handles the most demanding graphics calculations with an either 60 or a 144 Hz full panel. It also features a metal or plastic lid, but for this review, I assessed the metal model.

Processor

Lifting the thick bezel that is surrounded by the hideous red lines, is an AMD Rayzen 5 3550H processor that gives you mixed bag performance. According to CineBench benchmarks, the FX504 performs well on a single thread, but for multiple threads, it’s 20% slower than the average Core i5 8300H. It also packs 8GB DDR4 of RAM and a 1TB of SSHD which I hoped would perform a little faster. It’s disappointing that with 20 tabs open in Google Chrome and a 1080p Twitch Stream of Fortnite streaming in the background, there is a lag when switching between the tabs.

However, it is not all gloom when it comes to performance as this gaming notebook transfers 4.97GB of files at a rate of 94.5 MBps which is faster than Dell G3 15 at 103 MBps and Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP at 98.7 MBps. It also excels at video editing test and can transcode 4K video to 1080p in 11 minutes and 15 second which is faster than the average mid-range notebook at 14:20

Display and Graphics

The FX504 features cut corners and include a 15.6-inch display which is surrounded by a thick bezel and a red-backlit keyboard. It includes a dedicated IPS level FHD display with 6.5mm narrow bezel and a refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz and a color coverage of 45-95 percent NTSC for the most demanding games.

It was depressingly dark with only 220 nits on our light meter which is dimmer than the average 256nits of entry-level gaming notebooks. When I watched the Antman, I couldn’t see the solid-looking red costume as the contrast, and the colors appear muted and not very deep. Overall, the FX504  offers you wide viewing angles that provide you with vivid and consistent colors, even when watching from extreme angles.

Besides, we can fail to mention the anti-dust cooling system that Asus included in this model, meaning that you can comfortably play games continually. However, the HDD warms the left palm rest to 5 degrees higher than the right palm rest, but this is only noticeable when typing.

Weight and Battery Life

Weighing in at 5.29 pounds with a 1.02-inch thin profile, the FX504 is heavier than out ultra-slim and lightweight pick in this category the Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP. Besides, this laptop comes with a very rigid body, and the base is stable if you factor the price tag.

It comes with a built-in 48Wh battery that takes about 2 hours to charge from near empty to full capacity to give you 3 hours and 57 minutes on a single charge when continuously browsing at 150 nits of brightness. If you are hoping this gaming laptop is for work and play, you may need to think again.

Pros
  • Powerful performance
  • Mostly quiet
  • Wide viewing angles
  • Vivid consistent colors
Cons
  • Average battery life
  • Bland display
Specs Recap
  • Processor: MD Ryzen 5 3550H Processor5
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 560X
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight:
  • Battery Life:

Bottom Line

Asus FX505 is an affordable gaming notebook that offers you a balanced experience of power and performance. However, it has too many cut corners and a red-backlit keyboard which can cause a lot of strain and pain in the eyes, especially when typing for a long time. Besides, its NVIDIA  GeForce GTX 1050 with 2GB of VRAM can play games on low to medium setting.

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics...
  • 15.6inch Full HD IPS Display
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM / 256GB Solid State Drive

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515 gaming laptop is a high-performance and wallet-friendly gaming notebook that features 8th Generation Intel Core Processors with a decent amount of horsepower to play AAA games. Besides, it comes with a new Coffee Lake CPU to offer a robust mobile gaming performance. It’s a responsive mid-range gaming notebook with a slim display bezel which is an improvement from the previous version.

Processor

Nitro 5 AN515 features a 256GB solid-state drive for fast boot times and an Intel Core i5-8300H processor. Additionally, Acer included 8GB of RAM and Coffee lake CPUs that serves two threads per processor core which allow the quad-core i5 8300H to deliver eight threads of processing power. Nitro 5 AN515 is a handy notebook for multitasking gamers who want to stream live videos and shoot at the same time.

It’s not surprising that the Nitro 5 AN515 scored 14,219 in the Geekbench 4.1 test 100 points higher than what Asus FX505 registered at 12,716 giving it a fast performance rating. What’s more impressive about this laptop is its ability to load, copy, and download mixed media files at outstanding speeds. The laptop also includes a second M.2 2280 drive bay, a 2.5-inch bay and two SO DIMM modules that allow the system to run in the dual-channel mode.

Display and Graphics

Acer included with a 60Hz 15.6-inch display on this model to save cost. However, a 144Hz display would have been a nice feature to include in the Nitro 5 AN515. Besides, its equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Graphics Card which seats near the bottom of NVIDIA’s GeForce 10 series line.

The panel has an average brightness of 226cd/m, which is darker when compared to devices in the same category. Besides, the reaction times and viewing angles in this model are below par, which makes it a bargain basement display. The panel is only 83% evenly lit that gives it poor viewing angles with the light shining on the display. However, you’ll get detailed and smooth images, even in high game settings.

I should point out that Nitro 5 AN515 supports Nvidia Optimus which allows the system to automatically switch from NVIDIA GPU to a more efficient Intel UHD Graphics 630 that helps you to save power and lengthen battery life when streaming videos and browsing.

Weight and Battery Life

You won’t get an all-day battery life from Nitro 5. When looping a 4K video with screen brightness between 250-260nits, it gives you under 5 hours when fully charged with this 48Wh inbuilt battery. Moreover, Acer claims that this is one of their slimmest entry-level gaming laptops at 7.74 pounds, which is quite heavy compared to our ultra-lightweight pick in this category the Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP that features 4.62 pounds.

Pros
  • Speedy PCIe SSD
  • Wide viewing angles
  • Decent features for the money
  • Responsive trackpad
Cons
  • Subpar battery life
  • Heavy and thick
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8300H Processor
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 7.74 pounds
  • Battery Life: 4 Hours

Bottom Line

Nitro 5 includes sufficient power to handle everyday productivity. It’s a suitable option for those looking for QHD and UHD resolutions with extremely high graphics settings, making it a balanced package for the price.

However, battery life is a big letdown for those who want to game on the move as it offers less than 5 hours on a full charge. However, it handles AAA titles without breaking the bank and allows you to do general tasks like doing email without being chained to the power outlet.

5. HP Pavilion Power 15t Review

HP Gaming Laptop

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15.6' Core...

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15.6" Core...
  • Brand New in box. The product ships with...

The Pavilion gaming laptop is a budget-friendly notebook from that includes build quality, an impressive design, and packs sufficient power to hand current games and AAA titles striking a good balance between performance and value making it an excellent choice for students and casual gamers on a budget. It comes in a plastic housing with a very rigid body with some bend on the screen, which is inevitable given the center mount hinge design.

Processor

The lid opens easily with a single hand to reveal a Coffee Lake hexacore Intel Core i7-8750H processor. It includes a CPU with a TDP of 45 watts to 90 watts within a short time. Besides the Coffee Lake processor clocks at 2.2 GHz which can be increased to one or two cores to 4.1 GHz in turbo mode which has a higher clock rate than the Kaby Lake architecture.

The Pavillion cannot keep up with the Acer Nitro 5 which is 1000 points above when testing for Cinebench multithread bench though both feature the same GPU/CPU combination.

Display and Graphics

This pavilion model features a 60Hz display has a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels with an excellent contrast of 1067:1, but it could be better for the price range. We consider values of 1000:1 as good on mid-range gaming notebook – I feel the brightness could be improved. The 15.6-inch screen features an FHD IPS anti-glare and a WLED backlit, but it doesn’t feel compact at that size, however, the viewing angles and the matte finish layer help to minimize the glare.

I was able to run Stalker: Call of Pripyat on this HP Pavilion model on high settings and got over 100fps includes NVIDIA GTX 1050 TI GPU. Besides the photo editing is smooth and I had no issue with 4k videos – what I noticed was the loud sound from the fans that cool down the unit after 10 minutes of use, which can be annoying.

Additionally, I noticed how well it could reproduce dark parts of an image when I was watching Wakanda, which is indispensable when viewing your favorite show or playing AAA titles in low ambient light. However, keep in mind that for the display to handle such nuances, you may have to keep your current settings on medium to low display, and keep the surrounding in low lit conditions.

Weight and Battery Life

Although HP aims to offer a gaming laptop that performs and is affordable, the battery life can make you avoid purchasing this notebook. This model gives you between 3 to 5 hours of battery life depending on usage, meaning that you’ll be tied to the charger most of the time when you’re using it.

This laptop sheds 2.14kg from its predecessor to weigh 4.85pounds which makes it ultra-lightweight like our top pick in this category Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP. Another thing worth mentioning in this unit is the relatively compact power adapter.

Pros
  • Loud audio outputs
  • Great performance
  • Compact charging brick
  • Lightweight and sleek for gaming and everyday productivity
Cons
  • Average battery life
  • Bland display
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 8th Generation Intel Mobil Quad-Core i7-8300H
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 1 TB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 4.85 pounds
  • Battery Life: 3-4 Hours

Bottom Line

HP Pavilion is a mid-range gaming laptop that combines 1-TB HDD and a 16GB NVme SSD that ensures a fast running system with a full HD IPS display. It includes a Quad Core i7 8750H CPU and a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics that offers steady viewing angles and an excellent contrast to run AAA titles smoothly. However, the cooling fans produce much noise and are not quite as stable. However, then again, that’s the price you have to pay for a budget gaming laptop.

  • Comprehensive connections including USB...

The Vivobook gaming laptop is an everyday notebook that combines a low-power CPU with mid-tier dedicated graphics to offer an uninterrupted gaming experience. It performs well with daily chores and games but not that well with CPU intensive tasks.

Processor

In terms of hardware specs, Vivobook K570ZD is an entry-level model with Ryzen AMD Quad-Core R5-2500U, 8GB of RAM and only 5400 rpm HDD for storage which cripples the overall experience especially right out of the box. If you’re used to modern laptops PCIe storage, going back HDD based unit can be a rather disappointing experience.

However, that’s not all, when we ran Cinebench R15 tests, to stimulate a constant 100% CPU load, it clocks down after a few runs to get 450-600 points which are below average for a laptop in this category. Besides, the Ryzen 5 2500U processor still gets the job done with the GTX 1050 graphics that offers 2GB of VRAM.

Display and Graphics

This gaming notebook utilizes NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card that allows you to play modern and most demanding titles on smoothly at medium settings. It also includes a 15.6-inch display powered by a 1080p  FHD IPS to deliver stunning images. However, the AMD and Nvidia combo is a slightly awkward integration as the Vega graphics are the main selling point of Ryzen platform.

Additionally, Asus included unlike other mid-range IPS screens; you’ll only get a maximum brightness of 220nits, which is depressingly dim and unusable in bright lighting conditions. The white point on this model is at 6600K, while the viewing angles, contrast, and uniformity are pretty good.

Weight and Battery Life

Vivobook K570ZD includes an inbuilt battery with 48Wh to give you 9 hours of use on a single charge when browsing and performing general tasks which are impressive. However, when it comes to handling tasks like streaming live videos and downloading large files, it gives you a little under 5 hours – which makes it an unsuitable choice for the frequent traveler and the gamer on the go.

As far as the aesthetics go, Vivobook K570ZD comes in a plastic housing with a dark grey interior and exterior and subtle color accents that can stand out in the crowd. Asus tied to keep this laptop as skinny and lightweight as possible probably to overcome the various flaws that come with the model. The notebook weighs 4.2 pounds and includes a 0.86-inch profile for portability.

Pros
  • Fairly compact and lightweight
  • CPU/GPU doesn’t throttle with demanding loads
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Matte IPS screen
Cons
  • Depressingly dim display
  • Difficult to upgrade
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 3.6 GHz Ryzen 5 2500U
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 4.32 pounds
  • Battery Life: 5-6 Hours

Bottom Line

This laptop is a hard sell. It offers an Intel Core U based model with the same characteristics as the GPU. It features an average screen quality, builds, and typing experience, which makes me feel that Asus could have made this unit more affordable to overcome the flaws. However, if you insist on going for Vivobook gaming laptop, you’ll get surprisingly excellent speakers and eye-catching looks with a sophisticated reaper black finish accent.

It’s a mid-range laptop with that support GDDR5 graphics memory with slightly faster clock speeds for playing modern and most demanding games smoothly at medium to high setting. Besides, it comes with a vast Turbo mode that clock up to 3.2GHz.

Processor

In contrast to Dell G3 15 which includes Coffee Lake CPUs and 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8300H Processor, Vostro, on the other hand, features 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor with a CPU that is relatively low. Besides, the 7500U Kaby Lake-based SoC includes two CPUs that clock at 2.7 GHz and 3.5 GHz.

Also, Vostro includes 8GB of RAM and up to 32GB memory, which is sold separately for practical runtimes and to handle every browsing applications and casual gaming. The CPU includes 1.6GHz base clock speed up to 3.7GHz. Besides, the notebook doesn’t throttle performance when running on battery power; thus, you’ll retain a full battery capacity when you are on the move.

Display and Graphics

Vostro 15 5568 features a 15.6-inch display that with a matte IPS panel that includes stable viewing angles at 1080p although it’s too dim at a maximum brightness of 213 cd/m2 which makes it dull compare to Vivobook at 220 cd/m2. However, Dell equipped the TN panel with an accurate color display that offers you a respectable 1,777:1 contrast ratio giving it a decent display for the price.

Besides, when you’re playing in a bright environment, the display is dim even at maximum brightness. Additionally, the 208 Hz flickering is relatively low for sensitive users who may find it straining their eyes. It’s also important to mention that it packs a 1920×1080 display resolutions.

In addition to these features, Dell equipped this unit with a spacious keyboard that allows you to perform tasks without getting tired. The trackpad gives you plenty of room to perform long scrolling movements.

Weight and Battery Life

Dell included a 3-cell 42 Wh battery in this model gives you 4 hours and 20 minutes when fully charged. Unfortunately, this laptop doesn’t come with dedicated GPUs like the Acer Nitro 5 AN515 so, the device is more efficient with when it comes to power consumption between 5-11 W when used in everyday applications.

Although it sports an overall modern look with a narrower bezel than the Acer Nitro 5 AN515  53-55G9-cr, it includes a stable weight of 6.2 pounds which would not be ideal for carrying around. If you’re the gaming enthusiast on the go, this laptop would not be a suitable option.

Pros
  • Decent upgrade options
  • Practical runtimes
  • Stylish design
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • Poor display
  • The keyboard is unsuitable for frequent writing
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 7th Generation Intel Core i7 2400 MHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4GB GDDR5
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 6.22 pounds
  • Battery Life: 4.5 Hours

Bottom Line

The Vostro 15 5568 would be a suitable option for someone working in the office who doesn’t need a graphics-intensive unit. It comes with a display which I feel is underwhelming with unacceptable low maximum brightness. Besides, it also features GeForce MX130 GPU and stable viewing angles to allow you to enjoy a movie and play casual games occasionally.

Just because you’re looking for a wallet-friendly gaming laptop, it doesn’t mean that you have to trade off performance and power. The Inspiron 14 5000 offers you an excellent workhorse with an 8th Generation Intel Core i5 processor at an affordable price. It also includes modern Whiskey Coffee Lake-U CPU competing against other budget models like the Vivibook but let’s dive right in and see how it compares to the competition.

Processor

This Inspiron series includes an Intel Core i5 8250U processor and 8GB of RAM which can be found in pricer models like Asus Zenbook although it doesn’t come with dedicated GPU options. The 1TB, 5,400 rpm HDD is poised for multitasking; however, it doesn’t stand out and is a lot slower compared to what you get in most SSD in laptops at this price range.

I had 19 tabs opened in Google Chrome, and I noticed a lag while streaming a live video which was poor keeping in mind that this unit utilizes the latest Intel Whiskey Lake-U CPU. However, it’s important to mention that Dell included two accessible storage bays, which is uncommon for a budget buy.

The 512GB SK Hynix BC501 SSD is slow as opposed to other drivers in this category like the Dell G3 15 series or the Vostro model. The target user is unlikely to notice this cut corner in the Inspiron 14 5000.

Display and Graphics

The 15.6-inch display that includes a 1080p resolution is horrendous. The test images are grainy, and while watching the Avengers: Infinity War, it was hard to see the full color of Gamora’s green skin. Besides the screen covers 67 percent of the sRGB color gamut falling below the average 89 percent. The brightness is also weak with the maximum brightness under 200 nits making the Vivobook 50 nits brighter.

On the bright side, though, the contrast ratio is over 1000:1, which is at par with other budget IPS panels. Besides, there’s a backlight bleeding, but it’s minimal to sensitive user eyes. In addition to these features, on the 10fastfingers.com typing test, the Inspiron requires 73 grams of force to press the keys which got me below my minimum typing speed at 108 words per minute.

Weight and Battery Life

The Dell Inspiron 14 5000 is a lightweight model at 4.85 pounds, making it a portable option for the frequent traveler. It also includes a slim design at 15×10.2×0.9 inches and includes a wide array of ports in a smooth matte silver housing that chassis that combines a plastic and aluminum housing which is handy to handle day to day use.

The real-world WLAN battery life is 7 hours, which is impressive, but what can put you off is the charging waiting time, which is around 3.5 hours! In addition to weight and battery life, the cooling system includes a 45mm fan which is steady and unnoticeable when streaming video and browsing the web.

Pros
  • Solid performance
  • Fast boot times
  • Responsive touchscreen
  • Comfortable keyboard
Cons
  • Bland design
  • Poor display
Specs Recap
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8250U Quad-Core processor
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 620
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 4.85 pounds
  • Battery Life: 7 Hours

Bottom Line

The Dell Inspiron 14 5000 is an affordable gaming laptop that can run AAA titles and allow you to handle everyday applications such as browsing and video streaming. It doesn’t go an extra mile to offer anything more compelling than competitors in this list.

Dell G3579-5958BLK G3 Gaming Laptop-15...
  • Processor Manufacturer: Intel
  • Processor Type: Core i5
  • Processor Generation: 8th Gen
  • Processor Model: i5-8300H
  • Processor Speed: 2.30 GHz

The G3579 offers the cheapest configuration that the G series has to offer with i5 8300H, GTX 1050, 1TB HDD for fast-paced performance without sacrificing graphics to cater to gamers on a budget. The usefulness of this notebook goes beyond games to provide you with the ability to undertake every application.

Processor

The G3579 includes a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-8300H processor for pacey speeds when streaming video. Besides, this notebook also includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB PCIe although the HDD can be heard chugging along each time. Running Witcher 3 which gives you a real gaming mode, the CPU and  GPU in this unit can sustain a boost clock rate at 60 degrees and while running the game at maximum quad-core Turbo boost, you get3.9 GHz.

It also doesn’t throttle performance when running Prime95 and Furmark simultaneously and the temperature plateaus at 94 degrees. However, after opening 20 tabs on Google Chrome, I noticed some lag. Besides, you can upgrade the 8GB RAM to 16GB to improve the performance.

Display and Graphics

The G3579 includes a lackluster display that only covers 61 percent of sRGB color gamut which is below average for entry-level laptops, which should have 106 percent on the average. Besides, while watching Middle Earth: Shadow of war on the 15.6-inch 1920×1080 resolution screen, I couldn’t see the finer details on Talion’s ornate armor and cape which was extremely disappointing.

Unsurprisingly, the G3579 model utilizes the same IPS panel as the Inspiron 15 7577 for a display quality that is close to mediocre. Besides, the backlight is weak at only 200nits missing the average 263 nits – so don’t expect it to deliver bright and exciting colors form the Transformers movie. On the other hand, the contrast ratio is lower, and the entry-level unit in this category.

However, the matte panel appears clean with minimal graininess while the viewing angles are robust though you may not get high fresh rates or faster response times. Gamers who want 4K UHD options may have to look at Dell G3 15 series.

Weight and Battery Life

At 5.18 pounds, the G3579 lightweight making suitable for gamers on the go. Besides, it includes a 56 Wh battery that can last at an impressive 6 hours and 37 minutes an hour longer than the average 5:17 for entry-level models beating all the units I’ve listed in this guide. Charging from near empty to full capacity takes you two hours.

Pros
  • Excellent battery life
  • Good performance
  • Fun deck
Cons
  • Lacklustre display
Specs Recap
  • Processor: 8th Gen Intel Quad Core i5-8300H
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 1 TB
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 5.18 pounds
  • Battery Life: 6.5 Hours

Bottom Line

Dell G3579 series main highlight is the battery life which offers users with long hours of use, making it a suitable option for mobility as it won’t tie you to the charger. Additionally, the system can sustain high Turbo Boost clock rates when playing the most demanding games and AAA titles. However, it’s difficult to recommend it with an i5 8300H processor as you’d get a better deal with the Pavilion model which features Coffee Lake hexacore Intel Core i7-8750H processor. Besides, the display feels cheap and much weaker than the G3 15 series

The VivoBook S15 features a sleek, simple design that includes a wide array of bold accents which include firmament green, starry grey, gunmetal grey, and silver-blue to give it sporting bright color flair to match with your style and outlook. However, let’s get behind the beautifully packaged model and uncover the strengths and weaknesses.

Processor

Asus is known for high-end devices such as ZenBooks. However, VivoBook S15 is a more affordable consumer laptop with Intel Core i5-8265u Quad-Core Processor combined with 8GB of DDR4-2400 working memory and a 256GB SSD which can be supplemented by a 1 TB HDD. It also includes Kaby Lake processors with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz to 4 GHz.

Besides, the i5-8265u Processor consumes 35watts to achieve a clock speed of 3.3GHz. When I opened 20 Google Chrome tabs with some streaming videos, VivoBook S15 breezed through the typical stress test which means you can play YouTube videos at 1080p and two full-HD Twitch streams which are impressive for a budget notebook.

Besides, when we did the Geekbench test for overall performance, it edged out the Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP with 12,163 against 11,996. Converting a 4k video to 1080p resolution takes you 25 minutes and 38 second – which is remarkable.

Display and Graphics

VivoBook S15 features integrated Intel UHD graphics 620 GPU to play less demanding games at low to medium graphics settings. The Matte IPS display includes a full HD 1920×1080 resolution with an average brightness value of 256 cd/m2 outperforming competitors who seem to have very similar specs with Acer Nitro 5 panel featuring an average brightness of 226cd/m which is darker.

Since this is an affordable display, you only manage to get a high contrast of 1248:1 and a low black value of 0.21cd/m2. If you compare the display to competitors, you’ll quickly notice how this notebook is unable to reproduce many colors accurately.

Weight and Battery Life

There’s nothing to complain about the weight of this gaming notebook as it’s one of the most lightweight models you’ll get on this list with an ultrathin profile at 3.65 pounds that you can slip into messenger back and go.

The battery is a merely 42 Wh which is quite small for a 15.6-inch gaming laptop. The best it can give you is 6 hours on idle mode, although it gives you decent power consumption values.

Pros
  • Portable and Stylish design
  • Fingerprint lock
  • Great value for money
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • A small battery but not substandard
Specs Recap
  • Processor: Intel Core I5-8265U Processor
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Hard Disc: 256 GB
  • Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630
  • Display : 15.6-inches
  • OS : Windows 10 Home
  • Weight: 3.97 pounds
  • Battery Life: 6 Hours

Bottom Line

Although I have reviewed this laptop as the last in the list, it can compare with most gaming notebooks in this review in terms of performance and power. It features a dedicated graphics card, a well-equipped processor, a high amount of GPU memory and integrated Intel UHD graphics 620 GPU to play less demanding games at low to medium graphics settings.

Besides, it’s an affordable 15.6-inch multimedia laptop with a CPU performance higher than all direct competitors despite the small battery which can affect the mobility of the gamer on the go.

Wrap Up Of Best Gaming Laptop Under $700

No gaming laptop in this list is perfect, but the Acer Swift SF315-41G-R6MP might be worth buying if it fits your needs. It includes respectable configurations for pacey speed and a reliable range of mobile Ryzen CPUs with a base clock of 2GHz and a maximum boost clock of 3.6GHz claiming a superior performance.

However, the AMD Vega 3D Core graphics are somewhat patchy plus the hardware needs a little tweaking. Besides, if you are looking at a laptop with a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI that offers you productive multitasking, quick video editing and streaming favorite shows, then I’d recommend Dell G3 15.
