Best Laptops Under $1500 in 2020

1. LG Gram Thin and Light Laptop

LG gram Thin and Light Laptop - 15.6"...

  • 72Wh Lithium Battery (up to 16.5 hours *...
  • Intel 8th Generation i7-8550U CPU
  • 8GB RAM & 256GB SSD
  • Very light
  • Great display with thin bezels
  • Comes with a fingerprint reader
  • Good battery life
  • Subpar performance
  • Touch screen fluctuates

When LG introduced its first series of ultra-light LG-gram laptops, the majority were impressed by the fact that the brand created a 15-inch laptop that was as light and portable as a 13-inch and still maintained all its amazing features.

Weighing just 2.4 pounds, it still packs sufficient processing power owing to its 8th Gen core i7 processor. Also, you get about 16 hours of battery life with this fast, lightweight laptop to perform various multimedia tasks extensively.

Design and Looks

The light profile of the LG Gram 15 is as a result of the nanocarbon magnesium frame material which makes up the body. It is way better than plastic, and it is the alternative material LG employed for its lightness.

However, a hitch found with the design is that the hinge doesn’t provide much resistance as possible. A slight press or touch on display will cause it to fluctuate, making the touch screen to malfunction.

The LG Gram 15 laptop comes with a 1080p touch screen display. It ensures superb picture quality which delivers bright colors and decent brightness. The color rendering and picture accuracy that comes with the show is quite impressive. It provides realistic and vibrant images which makes your photographs and videos profound.

Also, the ingenuity in the approach of constructing this laptop improves the display experience. You won’t be facing the issue of making a compromise between portability and screen size. Although it is a 15.6-inch laptop, it fits into a compact body.

Features like 1.8GHz Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 512 GB Solid State Drive, 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and Intel UHD 620 graphics are what makes the LG Gram 15 efficient in multitasking. This kind of configuration is suited for most day-to-day activities such as for business meetings, taking notes in classes, and editing comprehensive media content.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The LG Gram 15’s backlit keyboard comes in a stylish design and also allows you to enjoy a comfortable click. It is quite spacious and light with low travel which you might consider a weakness. The 4.0 x 2.6-inch touchpad also works well and gives a substantial click when you press it.

On the other hand, the plastic used in construction is unusually low quality when compared with other ultraportable laptops on our list.

Other accessories

The LG Gram 15 packs a lot of exciting software and unique features for its users. It comes with an LG Easy Guide app to show users how to make use of the exclusive features found on the laptop. It also features a fingerprint reader located in its power button. Immediately you set it up, it works amazingly fast and gets you into Windows 10 in an instance.

Bottom Line

With features such as a vibrant display, uncommon quality bezels and great speakers, the LG Gram 15 is a firm multimedia laptop. Also, it is quite light that you will barely notice when you carry it in your bag. However, its downsides are subpar performance and a sloppy lid which dents the functionality of the touchscreen.

  • Solid CPU and GPU performance
  • Awesome 144Hz display
  • Upgradable RAM and storage
  • Low contrast ratio
  • Poor sound system.

The Omen 15 may be similar to its predecessor in some features. However, HP has tried to make notable upgrades to its internals. It now features an impressive Hexa-core CPU and a trailblazing GPU to ensure more productive use of its 144Hz panel. Also, the laptop is redesigned to be slimmer and with a sophisticated chassis.

Processor and Graphics

HP Omen 15 packs a Core i7-8750 CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU complemented with 16 GB of RAM. The Hexa-core CPU is a product of the Intel’s Coffee Lake architecture, and it is capable of executing about 12 threads at the same time owing to its Intel-Hyper threading. The Core i7-8750H comes with a base speed of 2.2 GHz and with a 4.1 GHz Max turbo boost.

The 15.6-inch, 1920 x 1080p display gets quite colorful and vibrant. Also, gamers will appreciate the 144Hz refresh rate, mainly when playing games at a fast pace. The matte finish of the display diffuses reflections efficiently. However, it looks washed-out when viewed in bright sunlight. Hence, you should find shady spots if you are to make use of it outdoors.

For storage, the HP Omen comes with dual storage options of 128GB SSD and 1 TB of Hard disk drive. The solid-state drive is a Samsung NVMe Drive that you can find in several high-end laptops. You can make use of the hard disk drive to store files and data. Also, the 128GB SSD comes with options to upgrade it. However, we would not recommend you install the OS in the HDD as it limits the speed in transfer and will slow down the system.

Design and Looks

HP replaced the bright-red logo from the previous edition of the Omen 15 with a stylish chrome-silver badge. It relinquished the flashy red X present in the center of the lid. Although HP may have chosen a discreet black and gray color scheme for the new Omen 15, the gaming laptop still maintains its aggressive look typical of its predecessors. The presence of angled vents on the sides and rear of the computer makes it look like a sports car.

The dual speakers present on the side of the Omen 15 are not very loud. They can use only a maximum of 73.7 dB(A) restricting their use to quiet environments only. The noise from the fans will interfere and drown out the sounds from gaming sessions. Hence, we recommend using headphones where likely.

Bottom Line

The HP Omen series keeps gaining relevance in the gaming laptop market. The dc1040nr maintains the strength seen in its predecessors and still possess more power under the hood. It impresses with a powerful Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics, a vibrant 1080p, and 144Hz display and satisfying keyboard. There were some undersides, however, such as poor-quality audio system and the battery lasts only a few hours.

  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645
  • Ultrafast SSD
  • Incredibly bright display
  • Great performance
  • Good sound quality
  • Bezels are extremely thick
  • Shallow travel distance

The New Apple MacBook Pro 13 is an upgrade to the previous model, and it offers more speed combined with one of the potent SSD you can find in a laptop. It is a powerful Ultrabook exclusively designed to handle everyday computing activities. For a budget below $1500, the MacBook Pro 13 offers an Intel Core i5 processor, 256GB SSD and 8GB of DDR4 RAM.

Design and Looks

As you perhaps know that the MacBook Pro does not come in a radical and rugged look, instead of a discreet and refined design. It comes in an elegant piece of aluminum material, and you have the option to pick between space gray or silver color. However, the design is gradually getting stale with the bezels that surround the screen looking excessively thick.

With a weight of 3.02 pounds and a thickness of 0.59 inches, the MacBook Pro is reasonably portable. However, you can get other sleeker laptops on our list.

While I would have liked to see Apple introduce 4K display, the attractiveness of MacBook Pro 13’s screen is still very much commendable. It has a bright and colorful 2560 x 1600-pixel retina with a maximum brightness of 548lux. That’s an impressive feature and great for use indoors. Although the screen is glossy, the brightness makes it usable even in extreme conditions.

Also, movies and games look crisp and vibrant with the MacBook Pro 13’s display.  High-quality photos render with so much detail you might think it worked on a canvas print.

Over the years, production and specs had never been Apple’s target. However, that changed with the launching of the MacBook Pro series featuring the new modern Intel Processor. The MacBook Pro 13 comes with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-6267U processor. This upgrade has increased the laptops multicore performance and enables it to multitask efficiently.

Although the MacBook Pro 13’s processor has a slower clock speed of 1.4GHz when compared to the average best of 2.4 GHz, this is not a big issue. That’s because the Ultrabook’s design is for college students and general-purpose users who don’t require powerful processors.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Unfortunately, the newest edition of the MacBook Pro 13 offers the same shallow travel of 0.6mm that came with previous versions. It is below the recommended average of 1mm for ultrabooks or ultraportable laptops. However, you can still have a comfortable typing experience as its 60grams actuation force ensures rapid feedback.

The trackpad of the MacBook Pro is quite massive, with a measurement of 5.3 x 3.2 inches. It is also precise and very responsive.

The sound quality is another notable multimedia feature of the MacBook Pro 13. It has impressive speakers even though it is a 13-inch system. It gives a high range of volume with bass capable of saturating a large room with tunes. You can feel the thump on the keyboard when the volume is high.

Bottom Line

Apple MacBook Pro 13 is a powerful laptop, especially in terms of its brilliant display, excellent sound quality, and improved keyboard design. Hence, if you are in search of a portable Ultrabook for several multimedia tasks or college purposes, the MacBook Pro is a suitable one. However, I would prefer Apple to come up with a sleeker design and integrate more amazing features into this device.

  • Poor graphics performance

Nowadays, it is not enough to be just a good laptop; there must be some additional spec to make it a good buy. Suitably, the Lenovo Yoga C930 comes with several amazing features. To begin with, it’s a 2-in-1 convertible laptop with a hinge that goes 360 degrees. You’ll be able to make use of it either as a conventional laptop or as a tablet.

Then it comes with a Dolby Atmos sound system that converts the hinge into a booming speaker. You also get good battery life, a blazing quad-core intel processor and a fast SSD for storage amongst other features.

Design and Looks

The limited version design of the Yoga C930 by Lenovo comes in a glass look, and it allows you to carry the laptop in style. Also, it comes in a lightweight aluminum chassis carefully made with drills of high-precision. It feels compact and of high quality with a sturdy 360-degree hinge with little flex.

Also, there is a lot of adaptabilities to squeeze that you might think that the Yoga C930 is a cheap laptop. However, this is not the case because it is a sleek machine making it attractive as a laptop and convertible to a tablet mode.

The display of 13.9-inch Lenovo Yoga C930 is quite detailed but not too impressive in comparison with other premium laptops. However, an essential feature of this laptop is its lovely Full HD touch screen. It is punchy and satisfying featuring deep colors and sharp contrast. The touch screen helps you to utilize hands-on-control while going through different functionalities.

Featuring an Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 12GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD, the Lenovo Yoga C930 is a powerful tool for multitasking. In a test I carried out, I ran a full HD stream on YouTube with over 15 tabs on Google Chrome opened, the 2-in-1 didn’t experience any lag or drawback.

Also, the built-in processor offers an ultra-low-voltage platform, and the implementation of the Intel Turbo boost technology provides ample power whenever you want. With 12 system memory, you have sufficient RAM storage to smoothly run multiple programs and play videos or games at a go.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The quality of the chassis makes the Yoga C930’s keyboard decent for a laptop this thin. However, the travel of the keys is quite shallow at 1.3millimeters lower than an average 1.5millimeters we expect. 75 grams of actuation force adds a certain weight to the core, but they may feel stiff when you are involved in long typing sessions.

The Lenovo Yoga C930’s Dolby Atmos sound system offers amazing, three-dimensional audio that spreads evenly in the surrounding. With the help of down-firing woofers, a significant decrease in noise and custom tweeters, the output audio is quite deep and precise.

Bottom Line

The design of the Yoga C930 is sleek and premium-looking. Besides, it has other exciting features that make it an excellent 2-in-1 laptop. It comes with a beautiful touch screen display coupled with a self-sustaining stylus. However, the main deal is the fantastic sound system which gives excellent audio even on a tablet mode.

On the other hand, the display can be better improved, making it more colorful and brighter.

  • Blazing fast performance
  • Very slim and portable design
  • Supports Thunderbolt
  • Can charge through Type-C
  • Limited I/O options
  • Heats up often

The XPS 13 9380 has come to limelight after striving for perfection with the premium range of XPS 13 laptops by Dell. In my view, these are some of the notable and most exceptional thin and light notebooks that are available in the market today. Its impressive performance and features packed in a beautiful design make it a one to reckon with.

It builds on the strength of previous versions and works on the lapses. It comes with updated hardware, revised screen options such as a matte non-touch full HD pane or a touch UHD panel with HDR support.

Design and Looks

Dell didn’t make a lot of changes to the latest XPS13 9380 from Dell. It still maintained the design that came with the previous edition.  It features a combination of aluminum and carbon composite materials with a metal lid and bottom plate. Carbon is used to make the base. As a result of this combination, the laptop weighs 2.7 pounds and 11.6mm profile.

Although you might find it difficult to open the lid with one hand, the hinge is built to be sturdy enough to resist the display from shaking while you engage in vigorous typing.

The display of the Dell XPS13 offers amazing contrast with bright whites and deep blacks with quality color accuracy. As impressive the exterior styling is, it has even more fantastic interior design. Its Infinity Edge display is the benchmark for competitors.

Dell managed to integrate a 13.3-inch panel into an 11-inch form factor. At the same time, adds a clear white outline to its bright 4K touch panel. Also, the XPS 13 comes with amazing visuals for watching movies and checking out high-resolution photographs.

The performance is another aspect that the Dell XPS 9380 excels. It comes with Intel’s Whiskey Lake U Core i7-8565U, impressive 1TB SSD and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Its 14nm chip is a crucial improvement to the 14nm Kaby Lake R processor that you can find in most 8th generation CPU’s. A bump in performance is usually as a result of an upgrade in clock speed.

However, owing to the efficiency Intel brings, the Whiskey Lake U can quickly run up to 500Mhz quicker than its predecessor.

Keyboard and Touchpad

You also get a satisfactory keyboard with the XPS13 9380’s form factor. It has reasonably long-travel keys and suitable feedback. However, the arrow keys on the keyboard are quite small and not easy to hit. Also, its touchpad comes with precision with a responsive fingerprint reader integrated into the power on/off switch.

Ports and Connectivity

As you would expect from a device as thin as this, it has limited I/O options. On its left side, it has two USB Type-C port and indicator showing the battery gauge. While on the right, you’ll find a headphone jack, a 3,1 (Gen. 1) Type-C connector with no MicroSD card reader, and Thunderbolt support.

Bottom Line

If you are in search of a laptop with a brilliant and accurate display, good battery life, sufficient input devices, then the XPS 13 is for you. It is an excellent build a device that makes use of its hardware to the optimum and provides extra features. However, it falls behind due to the reduced options in connectivity as a result of its size.

Asus has done well to get to grips with the Ultrabook versions of laptops, so it wasn’t something of a surprise that they could create something a little over the edge. Hence, the introduction of the Asus ZenBook S UX931. It is a 13-inch laptop serving the purpose for students, small business enterprises, and travelers requiring the impressive power of an Ultrabook.

Design and Looks

The design Asus ZenBook S UX931 is the appropriate definition of chic. It has an attractive dark-blue aluminum finish lined with rose gold. The lid carries a gold Asus logo in the center of the typical company’s signature of concentric circles.

Below the lid, you’ll find a glittery blue deck and a keyboard featuring gold text. It is important to note that the lid and the deck looked black when placed in a room with dim lighting.

Not everyone loves thick bezels. Asus has worked on its former ZenBook and worked on the bezels by providing a 13.3 inches NanoEdge display. You’ll be able to ignore the black bezel strips and have sufficient screen to look and to use.

Asus also didn’t disappoint with its display. You get an FHD 1920 x 1080 display which offers a wide variety of color, brightness, and clarity. The colors never looked satisfying thanks to the sRGB badge it exhibits.

Regardless of its portable and ultra-thin form factor, the Asus ZenBook S sports some of the best features found in modern Ultrabooks. Specs which includes an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U processor together with Intel UHD graphics 620, 16GB of DDR3 RAM with a frequency of 2133MHz, 512 GB SSD for storage.

With specs like this, the Asus ZenBook will have no issue running power-intensive apps, and you also get a fast response time when booting the system.

Ports and Connectivity

For a system so thin, you won’t be surprised it does not excel in terms of connectivity. You’ll find 3 Thunderbolt 3 ports for quick data transfer, for charging and for connection to displays. While on the left is just one USB Type-C port and battery life indicators. Also, the laptop features a USB-C-to-HDMI cable and a corresponding carrying sleeve.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Typing on the ZenBook guarantees a great experience. The keys feel firm with an in-depth travel of 1.2mm along with the keyboard. Although it might have that additional chomp that comes with a mechanical keyboard, you’ll still get an excellent typing practice.

The trackpad of the laptop does not feature a number pad or multi-screen like its competitors, but you still get a fingerprint scanner that functions pretty well.

Bottom Line

The Asus ZenBook S UX931 is an exceptionally ultra-light laptop with a premium and stylish design featuring a full HD display. It also has impressive performance and excellent quality keyboard. Battery life is a letdown, but the ZenBook is still a great option only if you are going to be unplugged for an entire workday most times.

It is a 15-inch laptop that sports features such as a fast processor, excellent connectivity, and an operating system that allows for flawless multitasking. With all these features, you get a responsible and powerful tool to help in achieving your goals and business strategies.

Design and Looks

The design of the ThinkPad E580 is in two varieties: a standard Lenovo black and an attractive dark-silver color. Presence of the silver is seen not only on the lid and deck but also spreads to the power button, the touchpad, and the fingerprint reader.

With a weight of 4.7 pounds and measurement of 14.5 x 9.9 x 0.8 inches, the laptop is not notably thin and light. However,  you’ll still be able to carry it in your bag with just a little effort.

The Lenovo ThinkPad E580’s display is a 15.6-inch Full HD. It complements its high-quality Intel graphics processor perfectly in terms of output. Similarly, it emphasizes the laptop’s internal strength. With a 1920 x 1080 p resolution and the presence of IPS technology, this display squeezes in quality with every single inch.

You can rotate the display to an angle of 180 degrees, and a regular bezel makes it a suiting face for the sophisticated work you carry out through your business.

To carry out your business activity efficiently, the ThinkPad E580 is what you need. It packs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U processor with a refresh rate of 1.8GHz and Max turbo boost of up to 4.0GHz. You also get the best in terms of visuals on your display with its Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics.

For storage, this laptop provides an impressive 2TB solid-state drive a to enable large store number of files. You’ll also be able to process applications as seamlessly as possible with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard of the ThinkPad E580 comes stylish and sleek in black color. There is also provision for back-lighting that allows you to switch on/off manually. It ensures users can work in several lighting environments and conserve battery in the process. It also comes with a touchpad for easier and faster navigation with a fingerprint sensor, offering you a feeling of ownership.

Ports and Connectivity

For connectivity options, the Lenovo ThinkPad E580 excels. It provides various ports to integrate a variety of peripherals to it and provide a complete workstation you so desire. You get a USB Type-C Gen 2.0 and 3.1 port for delivering power, faster transfer of data, and for adding displays. You also get an HDMI and USB 3.1 port, a jack for microphone and headset.

Bottom Line

With features such as an excellent keyboard, elegant design, and reliable performance, there are so much to enjoy about the Lenovo ThinkPad E580. It is an entry-level office notebook with the high build quality and with specs that can be upgradable. There were some short-cuts to this otherwise perfect business laptop such as a dim screen and lack of a dedicated opening for maintenance.

The Samsung Notebook comes with an extremely lightweight that you might find it difficult to believe it is a 15-inch laptop. Weighing just 2.7 pounds, it stands the lightest notebooks with a screen size as this on our list. There are also other exciting features to review, such as excellent overall performance, vibrant and colorful display, and the superb battery life.

Design and Looks

The Notebook 9 from Samsung comes in a classic look with brushed-aluminum accents and a black anodized aluminum chassis. The bezels of the screen are just a little thick on the sides which ensures a possible match of a 15-inch display in a 13.64 full laptop.

Luckily, its weight of 2.73 pounds and measurement of 13.7 x 9.02 x 0.67 inches makes it a suitable companion when traveling.

Without much of a surprise, the Full HD display of the Notebook 9 is quite impressive. It offers brilliant color reproduction with its quality LED panel. Red completely pops with blacks disappear into the bonding of the screen.

However, a downside to the display is that the actual brightness of the Notebook 9 is limited when placed in a free mode in the Samsung Settings app.

Owing to its Intel Core i7-7500U CPU and 16GB of RAM, the Notebook 9 is a powerful multitasking tool. This dual-core 8th Generation dual-core processor laptop has a clock speed of 1.8GHz and a turbo boost of up to 4.0GHz. Although this is a disadvantage as most modern 15-inch machines come with quad-core processors.

For storage, this laptop makes use of 512GB SSD storage space which allows you to store large quantity of files and at the same time access them faster.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard of the Samsung Notebook 9 does not feature a number pad giving the keys breathing space. Anyone with large hands will appreciate this feature. The keys are entirely satisfactory and responsive to significant travel. However, there is a drawback in terms of feedback.

The touchpad is a positive addition. It is quite responsive and understands gestures clearly, and it is also large enough to ensure accuracy.

Ports and Connectivity

Surprisingly, the Notebook 9 did not forsake connectivity for its portability. There is an ample number of ports found on the edges of this laptop. On the left, you’ll find a USB 2.0 port, a USB Type-C port, a power-input and a jack for headphones. While on the right, you’ll see two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a microSD card reader. All these ports help to ensure a seamless connection.

Bottom Line

If what you want is power combined with portability, then Samsung Notebook 9 is for you. It has a beautiful case, lightweight and reliable design. Its display Is top-notch, and it offers excellent performance for day-to-day activities. All these features are combined in a 2.7 pounds laptop to make it one of the lightest 15-inches ever.

However, the keyboard needs improvement as it feels quite loose and hollow, and the whole chassis looks too flexible and tacky.

The Surface Book is Microsoft’s first attempt to design a clamshell notebook that is non-convertible. The brand tried to please fans and users of the Surface Pro requesting a full screen and incorporated keyboard with little or no increment in price. Also, an upgrade to the system’s hardware has alleviated the concerns of battery life by users in the past, making it more satisfying.

Design and Looks

In my review of the Surface Laptop, I found out that it’s quite possible the 13.5-inch system is the most attractive machine ever created by Microsoft. It comes in a full aluminum lid and a body that is suggestive of Surface Book’s design, giving it a reliable but premium feel.

The screen of the Surface Laptop is a vibrant and colorful 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen display. It is supported with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect it against scratches. Its 2256 x 1504 resolution gives it a pixel density of 201 pixels per inch. The screen of the Surface laptop with a 3:2 aspect ratio is taller, offering you more screen while working.

During the Launch of the Surface Laptop, the most prominent feature was Windows 10s, which is a more advanced option of the Windows 10. The software performs excellently for school and business work that manage a fleet of computers. It can also be used for basic computing needs by people profiting from its upgraded malware and virus protection.

The CPU of the Surface Laptop is a quad-core 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of DDR3 RAM. It’s Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU is quite inadequate as you will not be able to perform any graphics-intensive tasks.

The Surface Laptop does not come with an aluminum keyboard present in Surface Books. Instead, Microsoft has opted for plastic keys. However, you should not start feeling the Surface Laptop is quite a chip because of this feature. It also features Alcantara fabric material and cut with a laser to match with the keyboard giving the Laptop an attractive feel when typing.

Ports and Connectivity

For connectivity, the Surface Laptop features a Mini DisplayPort, a USB 3.0 port, a docking port, and a branded Surface Connect power by Microsoft seen on other Surface devices.

Unfortunately, there is no USB Type-C port with a wide range of peripherals adapting to this kind of connection and many Surface Laptop’s including it as well.

Bottom Line

Microsoft is gradually gaining status with the design of sturdy, elegant, and overall premium looking laptops to exhibit its Windows Software. The Surface Laptop follows in the same vein. The design is thin and light, allowing you to move it around quickly. At the same time, its carefully configured internals and materials built with high quality and precision make using the laptop a great experience.

Not everything is perfect with the laptop. No USB Type-C port and this is quite disappointing for such a modern device as this.

With the GS65 Stealth, MSI has upgraded its line of laptops and has made it one of the elites in the market today. This gaming laptop from MSI brings extreme and absolute power to a subtle and premium package. You get a stylish portable 15-inch laptop squeezed into a 14-inch device which can handle high-end gaming.

Processor and Graphics

As you know the main objective that leads to the purchase of a gaming laptop is its performance, particularly in tasking situations. The combination of an H series Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia Max-Q GTX 1070 makes the system powerful enough to handle anything you throw at it.

With 8GB of VRAM, the GPU is powerful enough to offer reasonable frame rates when the settings are high. Interestingly, it also supports VR.

The 15.6-inch display of the MSI GS65 Stealth comes in a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. Its 144 Hz refresh rate helps reduce tears and latency on the screen. This refreshing display with vibrant coloration makes this gaming laptop suitable for all types of games from adventures to twitch shooters and vibrant.

For storage, the Stealth offers 512GB M.2 SSD which also produces a transfer rate of 193.3 Mbps in the process of duplicating a 4.79GB mixed file. However, its rate is still well below the premium gaming average rate of 640.5 Mbps.

Design and Looks

With a gold accent finish, it has a beautiful look without being too flashy. Every aspect of the Laptop’s chassis comes in black with a matte sandblasted aluminum alloy. This time around, MSI offered a Midas touch that is, a printed black-and-gold emblem instead of the usual backlit red-and-white dragon sigil symbol.

Although I’m not a fan of bottom-mounted speakers, the pair that comes with Stealth is quite good. However, the noise coming from the GS65’s cooling system is quite loud that you might require the use of headphones while gaming.

Bottom Line

The MSI GS65 Stealth THIN-259 stands as one of the most breathtaking gaming laptops in the market today. It squeezes in an NVIDIA GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU in a frame weighing just 4.1 pounds. You can compare Its portability to that of an Ultrabook, but it comes with enough power to compete with gaming desktops.

Consider before buying Best Laptops under $1500

After reading the reviews above, you already have a few models in mind. However, it can still be confusing to choose the ultimate one since the specifications are somewhat close. The following guide and FAQs will shed light on how you go about the selection process. Most of the features here will even confuse the gurus.

So, you shouldn’t worry if some of the things appear to be Greek.

This is what functions as the computer’s brain. You will find laptops with either AMD or Intel, with the latter being the most common. Of late, the AMD types have been making a comeback. What we already know is that an Intel processor (CPU) will always perform better.

In both, the manufacturers will always number them to show the generation. That gives a general idea of what a laptop can do. If you need a laptop for lightweight tasks such as watching and browsing, then the i5 or below specification will suit you. For the AMD, the Ryzen 3 type will suffice.

However, if you want a more horsepower machine, the i7 and i9 are what you should consider. Laptops with such processors, especially in the 8th generation and above, fit graphic design, programming, or game playing.

Graphics Card

Most of the reviews have the graphics card integrated. Laptops like the Lenovo Yoga C930 have the Intel UHD graphics 620. Such machines are suitable for those who don’t have anything heavy to subject on their laptop. For those in video editing, graphic design, and modeling, among other intensive tasks, you’ll need the AMD or NVIDIA specification.

Depending on the requirements, you may meet low-end chips such as the MX250 or GTX 1060 (Nvidia), like in the MSI GS65 Stealth model. On the high-end, laptops will have the RTX specification with the highest going up to the 2080 GPU.

The Random-Access Memory (RAM) aids in transferring data between the processor and the hard disk. The bigger it is, the better. You, however, need a RAM that can work with the internal components. If it’s faster or slower than what the processor needs, then there will be trouble as you continue to use the laptop.

We do not advocate for 4GB RAM if the laptop is in the $1500 range. So, the least you should go for here is 8 GB. Most of our reviews are filled with 16 GB RAM specs, which is the ideal pricing solution. Others, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad E580, shoot to 32 GB, which others consider excessive.

Such laptops will handle multiple tasks with minimal to no delay in whatever you are doing. In DDR specification, the least you should consider is DDR3.

Display & Resolution

A laptop can have great internals, but with an inferior screen visual, everything drops. First, more pixels mean that much of the content can fit into your screen with better clarity. Within the budget in question, the least you can go for is 1920 x 1080 pixels, also known as the 1080p.

If you need more high-end specs, then a laptop like the MacBook Pro 13 with 2560 x 1600 will be better. For the 4K range, the Dell XPS13 9380 is the best bet for your hard-earned money. Apart from the pixels, it would help if you also looked at the display type. MacBooks come with the TrueTone Retina display, and it always seems unbeatable.

Choosing an IPS display type is also okay, but the color range and brightness differ depending on the chosen machine. When it comes to brightness, anything above 300 nits suits the occasion. The OLED has rendered the best quality, but the battery life is not always the best.

One more thing, most laptops have a touch display. If that’s what you need, then go for a 2-in-1 laptop. However, make sure the hinges are the best to avoid multi-touch issues.

The type of hard disk in a laptop can determine how fast it will be. If you don’t need too much storage, anything between 256GB and 512 GB will serve you. the type to consider here should be the solid-state (SSD) since they are way faster than the old HDDs.

In the SSD types, the traditional SATA connection is still okay, but you may want to try the M.2, PCIe, or NVMe form factors. The latter is way faster than the SATA, which has dwelled in HDDs for over ten years.

For higher storage, there are 1 TB and 2 TB specifications. Getting an SSD terabyte may seem expensive, but you get bigger and faster storage at the same time. If you want more than 512 GB, it’s better to choose a laptop with both SSD and HDD specifications. The HP Omen 15-dc1040nr is a good example.

The issue of connecting to the internet depends on what you are doing and where. If you are always on the move, then the Wi-Fi chip’s 802.11ac feature should be the minimum requirement. Laptops with 4G LTE will be much better, primarily if you work on your laptop while on the move.

The best Wi-Fi connectivity is the WI-Fi 6 or the Gig+, where throughput is tremendous, and the latency is significantly reduced. If you work in an office with a router somewhere, then having a laptop with an ethernet port will save your days.

Battery life

Lastly, we will focus on battery life, which is more vital as you choose a laptop. We have already seen laptops with an 8-hour battery life or more. While that’s okay, you need to know that battery life will always depend on the machine’s use.

On the other hand, if a laptop lets you play and work for hours without need a recharge, then it’s among the best recommendations. The minimum battery life you should go for is 5 hours, and that reflects on the gamers.

You should note that how battery life gets tested in the lab does not concur with everyday machine use. That is why you are bound to get fewer hours than what the laptop specifications depict.
