Zephyrus S is a superb model from ASUS that has developed an enormous prominence amongst the gaming enthusiasts. In a new generation of Nvidia Max-Q laptops and with technology that enables them to be considerably thinner and faster, it’s an indication that things are transforming. This laptop sits comfortably at the top of this new variety of machines.

Processor

Slim can be super-fast, and the Asus ROG Zephyrus S laptop is a suitable proof. It features an 8th generation Intel Core i7-8750H processor and 16GB of RAM. That’s terrific hardware for any system. The powerful combination can handle 1080p YouTube videos and 50 Google Chrome Tabs with Tomb Raider playing at the background at the same time.

Graphics

With an envelope around the NVIDIA GPU architecture and fantastic RTX technology, the NVIDIA GeForce delivers combined programmable shading, real-time ray tracing and artificial intelligence to your ROG device without issues. You shouldn’t be surprised that the newest Zephyrus S is a beast in terms of graphics performance and computing proficiency. For its price, we should expect that much from this machine.

Storage

For storage, the Asus ROG Zephyrus S laptop features a 512GB SSD of RAM. With an average transfer rate of 424Mb/second, it means it takes you only 12 seconds to copy or transfer 4.97GB of Data which is quite impressive. Also, massive storage capabilities allow you to save an infinite number of games and apps. It retrieves files and games easily and quickly.

Display

The Zephyrus S features a 15.6-inch big display and an amazing 1080 panel. During a test I carried out, I was able to watch quite a few movies and played some games to ensure whether Asus is actually delivering what they promised or just making tall claims. What I eventually got went beyond my anticipations. With a smooth 144Hz display on IPS level, it comes with a high refresh rate that decreases input lag and ensures enjoyable gameplay.

Design

While it is not a sturdy build, the Zephyrus S still makes an eye-catching signature statement by Asus. It stands as one of the weightless and slimmest laptops in the market today. The make is of pure aluminum and sports a two-tone black design splitting diagonally brushed coating and stylish matte.

Others

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S also comes with an Aura Sync backlit keyboard that can endure over 20 million keypresses. Also, the Zephyrus S offers you with sufficient ports and connections needed to ensure first-rate gaming experience. On the downside, this laptop uses a 4-cell 50WHr battery which gives you just about 3 hours of battery life.

Pros
  • Super Thin and Light
  • Amazing cooling performance
  • Great USB-C charging option
Cons
  • Screen quality control is unimpressive
  • Not comfortable to use the touchpad
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 9
  • Processor: 3.9 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4
  • Storage : 512 GB SSD
  • Display: (1920 x 1080)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070
  • Screen Size: 15.6 inches
  • Weight: 4.63 pounds
  • Battery Life: 3 hours

Bottom Line

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S heads off to be a more reliable futuristic laptop with incredibly superb features such as a slim chassis, a responsive screen, and powerful graphics. However, a good point is they have not forgone performance in favor of portability. They have done well to combine the two accurately. On the other hand, its battery life is a cause for concern, and typing is usually tricky as it flashes down to the desk level.

2. HP Spectre x360 (15-inch, 2019)

I’ll be candid to admit I’m a fan of 2-in-1s. Laptops that you can convert into tablets or superb Netflix binging machines appeal to me other than straightforward routine designs. The HP Spectre x360 15T is, without question one of the Best Laptops under $2000 we have tested. A sleek and attractive yet sturdy design and a very fair price will make you fall in love with it.

Design and Looks

The design of the Spectre x 360-15t is made to be as top quality and advanced as its performance. It comes with a Poseidon Blue chassis lined with gold trimming extending along its edges. Each angle is carved and chiseled looking like a gemstone which informed its name the “gem-cut” version by HP. On the other hand, the Spectre x 360 is a quite large 2-in-1 at 4.81 pounds and with thick bezels not usually found in modern laptops.

Display

One of the best features that come with the Hp Spectre x 360 is its 4K, IPS display. The image quality is impressive, having videos and games popping from the screen. Also, with its 60Hz refresh rate, you get a smooth and precise tracking. Also, it has a fantastic color representation although it errs on a cooler side with some blue and magenta hues.

Keyboard and Touchpad

In this line of laptops under $2000, one of my favorite keyboards comes from HP. The Spectre x360 15-inch keyboard comes with substantial travel, precise mechanism, and a numeric keypad. However, its touchpad is quite a setback because the laptop still has sufficient space for a larger touchpad.

Also, its display is touch-sensitive and comes with an HP active pen for Windows 10 Ink support but no tilt support. For this, you will need to get an HP Tilt pen if the feature is of importance to you.

Performance and Storage

The Spectre x360 15t touch makes use of an Intel i7-8565 CPU which is fed by 16GB of DDR4. It has an outstanding 1TB combo optane/NAND SSD for storage option which ensures you have sufficient capacity to store files. Besides the Integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics for use on mainstream, it has a discrete Nvidia GeForce MX150 useful for casual gaming, CAD software, and running of apps.

Audio

The sound of the Spectre x360 15t lacks a bit in the low end. However, it is well-balanced generally owing to the Bang and Olufsen speakers. You also get plenty of volume on tap as well. One impressive feature is its sound stage. Although it seems a bit wider than most laptops, it’s quite decent for entertainment particularly when watching movies.

Pros
  • Amazing design
  • Bright 4K display
  • Good performance
Cons
  • Awkward positioning of trackpad
  • Does not support VR
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 9
  • Processor: 2.2 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4

  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX Vega 10
  • Screen Size: 15.6Inches
  • Weight: 4.48 pounds
  • Battery Life: 8 Hours

Bottom Line

The HP Spectre x360 15T is a laptop to reckon with if you are willing to pay the price. It has the ability to handle anything you throw at it. It stores remarkable internal components suitable for almost anyone from the most demanding video editor requiring a little bit of power to run graphics hungry application to anyone in need of a convertible laptop for other multimedia tasks.

The Dell XPS9560-7369SLV is the latest addition to the XPS series that comes from Dell. It is a 15.6-inch premium ultrabook and one of the best laptops for visual artists that are into photography or video editing. It is very light, features a 4K display, 100% Adobe RGB display screen, a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics, and plenty of RAM. The new Dell XPS 15 delivers in both form and function

Design and Looks

The design of the Dell XPS9560 is a quality and premium construction which is quite attractive. It comes with an aluminum base and lid with a palm rest and support for the keyboard. This system feels and looks expensive with the natural body and screen used in the XPS line from Dell. With a relatively light-weight of 3.9 pounds and measurement of 0.66 x 14.06 x 19.3 inches, it combines size and weight so efficiently for an easy commute.

Graphics and Display

For folks expecting Dell to feature an integrated video card are going to be amazed. The Ultrabook comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card and particularly a 4GB DDR% model. Hence, whether you feel like gaming, watching a 4K video content, or doing some intensive 3D rendering, you stand a good chance. Also, the XPS9560-7369SLV comes with a 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD display with 3840 x 2160 resolution which is quite impressive.

Processor

What contributes to the superb performance of the Dell XPS9560 is a 7th generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor with a 2.8GHz base frequency and a turbo boost of 3.8GHz. The latest Kaby Lake Intel Core i7 CPU is capable of running up to eight computing threads at a go which implies an impressive score in highly intensive tasks.

You’ll be able to use the system to carry out most power-user tasks such as video encoding and photo editing amongst a myriad of other professional media works.

Storage

The storage capacity of the Dell XPS9560 is abundant. You get a 512 GB SSD which means the high speed of a solid-state drive combines with half the storage space common in recent HDD laptops. It allows you to get the most out of both worlds.

Battery Life

Like other 4K Laptops, there is usually a downside, and it has to do with the battery life. You can only get approximately 6 hours use of your laptop after a full charge which is pretty fair. However, if you want to avoid any trouble, you should have your AC adapter at hand.

Pros
  • Solid and Robust design
  • Lightweight and easy to carry
  • Superb and crisp display
  • Good performance
Cons
  • Inappropriate camera placement
  • Generates a lot of heat
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 8
  • Processor: 3.8 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4
  • Storage : 512 GB SSD
  • Display: (3840 x 2160)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
  • Screen Size: 15.6 inches
  • Weight: 4.41 pounds
  • Battery Life: 8 Hours

Bottom Line

The Dell XPS9560-7369SLV is the latest contribution to the XPS power category. It functions as a multimedia powerhouse that can serve both media professionals and gamers alike. It comes with premium construction and solid performance for business work and video editing. You should consider getting this system if you are a media hobbyist or a professional who needs a high-end machine.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro from Apple is an adorable piece of technology that will bring changes to the way you work. At least, that’s the promise from Apple, and many apple fans pretty much agree to it.

It has a stylish touch strip situated above the keyboard which allows you to edit documents and skim through option menus without removing your fingers from the home-row found on the keyboard.

Design and Looks

The MacBook Pro is known to be quite commutable. With a weight of just about 4 pounds and 0.61 inches thick, it is slimmer and lighter than many rival systems. It allows you the ease of sliding into your work bag. Also, with an attractive aluminum design and gently rounded chassis, the MacBook Pro is a beauty to behold. What I enjoyed most is the shiny, smooth hinge that comes in space gray or silver, allowing me to open up the lid of the MacBook Pro without shifting the system.

Connectivity and Ports

If you are expecting to pull some files from your USB thumb drive to have your client take a look, then it will be good you come along with the right adapter. Unfortunately, the MacBook Pro is void of a single full-size USB port. What you get is four Thunderbolt 3-ports with two on each side of the system. It implies connecting peripherals is a matter of getting the right adapter handy.

Display

The 2880 x 1800 retina display of the MacBook Pro 15.4-inch laptop is bright and beautiful. It makes text look crisper and more legible owing to its improved contrast over previous models. According to a test, the display could reproduce 116 percent of sRGB color gamut. Surpassing 440 nits of brightness, the MacBook Pro can be easily used outdoors or under direct sunlight

Performance

The 15-inch MacBook Pro can run through your most demanding sessions of work without any glitch. The laptop comes with a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor and a superb 16GB of RAM, allowing for smooth multitasking. Also, graphically intensive tasks should be no issue for the MacBook Pro with its AMD Radeon Pro 455 graphics.

Keyboard

The keys of the MacBook Pro are incredibly flat with a key travel of just 0.5 millimeters on each stroke. The outcome is that you can feel a bottom-out movement of the keys when you strike them. As a result, your fingers become strained and tired just after an hour of typing.

Pros
  • Sharp and vivid display
  • Speedy performance
  • Thin and light design
Cons
  • No USB Type-A port
  • Heats underside
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 8.5
  • Processor: 2.8 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4
  • Storage : 256 GB HDD
  • Display: (2880 x 1800)
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 555
  • Screen Size: 15.4 inches
  • Weight: 4.02 pounds
  • Battery Life: 10 hours

Bottom Line

The Apple MacBook Pro with a new touch bar has a lot going for it. It is one of the sleekest 15-inch MacBook Pro in the market today. It boasts of an impressive display, good battery life, and overall great hardware. However, its super flat keyboard is a downside, in my opinion, as it makes typing quite uncomfortable.

The Aero series from Gigabyte has continually attempted to integrate enhanced technology to the ultrabook make with the Aero 15W being no different. You get a fantastic combination of a 15.6 inches screen, dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, a full-sized keyboard with a number pad, a suitable LI-on battery with a rate of 94 WHr.

Besides, it also features Intel’s new 8th generation CPU, 512GB SSD for storage and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. All these features make Aero 15W a trailblazing gaming PC that comes in the shape of a professional ultrabook.

Processor

Regardless of its portable size, the Aero 15W still features powerful hardware. Gigabyte has integrated. It features a six-core 12-thread Core i7-8750H which is an impressive 45W CPU for gaming. It also ensures efficiency, speed, and multitasking with ease. Its coffer lake cores have a base frequency of 2.8GHz but a Max turbo boost of up to 4.1 GHz. For improved performance, it comes with a single stick of 16GB DDR4 RAM leaving you with one free RAM slot.

Graphics and Display

Although the Aero 15W has sufficient GPU power for certified ultra-portable, its Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is run-of-the-mill in terms of performance. You get close to 60fps during videoplay with the use of ultra-settings and at a resolution of 1080p. However, if you reduce the graphical settings a bit, you’ll be able to make ample use of the 144Hz screen having less power-demanding games pumping out over 100 frames per second.

Storage

For a price as this, storage is a little elementary. It only comes with a single SATA-based 512 GB Crucial MX300 SSD limited to high performance and speed of accessing files. While with an NVMe-based SSD, you also get fast data transfer which is what we expect to feature at this price. However, users have the opportunity to upgrade the machine with an additional NVMe SSD. It comes with an extra slot on the motherboard to do so.

Keyboard

The Aero 15w’s keyboard covers the full width of the unit. By this, it comes with a number pad and properly sized arrow keys. The response rate of the key is quite satisfying with 80-key rollover. Although the resistance may feel a little high at the first instance, you’ll get used to it in the long run. Besides, Gigabyte has included RGB backlighting for the keyboard and also allows you to set per-key RGB patterns in static mode and other effects with the software.

Pros
  • Light for what it’s packs
  • Beautiful display
  • Easy to upgrade
  • Great performance
Cons
  • The screen bleeds and bounces
  • Battery drains fast
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 8
  • Processor: 2.2 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4
  • Storage : 512 GB SSD
  • Display: (1920 x 1080)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
  • Screen Size: 15.6 inches
  • Weight: 4.41 pounds
  • Battery Life: 10 hours

Bottom Line

Gigabyte Aero 15W deserves an ovation for the fantastic features that come with it despite its ultra-portable size. It packs an Intel 8th generation CPU and an impressive Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 that allows for an upgrade in performance and enhanced multimedia work.

The recent series of Surface devices designed by Microsoft is an indication that the brand has mastered the art of creating a combination of quality and desirable devices that can give other big laptop brands a run for their money. With an 8th Gen Intel CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, CPU has enough power for video and photo editing. You also can convert to a tablet mode or even detach as well.

Design and Looks

Surface Book 2 is a brand-new laptop although you might not detect by just taking a look at it. Externally, it does not come with many changes to its initial configuration. It still maintains its greatest stunt which allows you to detach from the keyboard and convert to a tablet mode. Also, it has a sturdy magnesium chassis which does not bend whether you poke or push.

Display

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 series is a 13.5-inch laptop that features a crisp 3000×2000 display. It is also quite colorful and bright. Like other surface book models, it comes in the 3:2 aspect ratio, and that is great for productivity. The surface book measures 374 nits of brightness which is far higher than the average 289 nits.

Performance

A combination of an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8650 CPU, 1000GB SSD, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics with 2GB VRAM makes the Surface Book 2 a powerful tool for multitasking. I put this performance to test by opening several tabs on chrome with one streaming a 1080p video clip while making use of the Windows Ink Workspace Sketch pad. Surprisingly, it had no lag, and that is quite impressive.

Keyboard

The keyboard of the Surface Book 2 is quite below par. It comes with just 12mm of travel and requires a force of 70g to press. Despite this glitch, the keyboard has a great feel and touch with soothing clickiness that allows for satisfactory typing.

Other accessories

As you would anticipate from a surface laptop, a Microsoft Pen and surface dial function well with the Surface Book 2. In particular, the surface pen responds smoothly to scribbles and notes. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not include a surface pen with the Surface Book 2, and you will have to purchase that separately.

Pros
  • Great piece of Hardware
  • Keyboard has a great feel
  • Sleek and Solid design
  • Bright and colorful screen
Cons
  • Screen flickers
  • The Bezel is quite massive
Specs Recap
  • Editor’s Score: 8
  • Processor: 4.2 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB DDR4
  • Storage : 1000 GB SSD
  • Display: (3000 x 2000)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
  • Screen Size: 15.6 inches
  • Weight: 4.41 pounds
  • Battery Life: 2.4 pounds

Bottom Line

The recent version of the Surface Book 2 is no different from the last one. It is just an upgrade by adding modern features and components. Although it is quite pricier than competitors you get a beautiful design that comes detachable, great display and powerful graphics card

Conclusion

At last, these are the best laptops you can get for a budget of under $2000. Hence, you can go on to select anyone based on your needs. You can use every laptop on our list for different purposes, such as gaming, photo, video editing, and performing other multimedia tasks.
