If you want a cheap, spare laptop for casual use like watching Netflix, social media surfing, and browsing (or even if you are a student on budget) – it’s long overdue that you diss that windows PC and switch to Lenovo Chromebook to enjoy the accelerated speed that Chrome OS has to offer.
Many people tend to buy Chromebooks with unrealistic expectations. A chromebook is somewhere between a laptop and android phone so you can’t expect it to work like a MacBook or a full-fledged PC.
With that in mind, let’s see if Lenovo Chrome book S33o is worth a try.
Equipped with 4 GB RAM, MediaTek™ MTK8173C Processor and 64 GB storage, this chrome book is a responsive yet straight-forward laptop. The processor is adequate enough to handle online tasks and stream Netflix videos for you.
Encased in a business-black, textured plastic case with a chromeOS logo on the front, the chromebook s330 has a sleek and modern look to it. It is not a 2-in-1 model and its lid only opens up to 180 degrees. When you open the lid, you can see the keyboard underneath is full-size and quite functional. The keys have smooth finish to them.
Having 14” extra-wide screen with 1920×1080 FHD resolution, this machine is supplied with agreeable if not exceptional display quality. But then again, that’s what you paid for. You can enjoy bright and good quality videos without any hassle. The anti-glare display is excellent for providing you clear pictures while working in brightly-lit surroundings.
Users can’t stop raving about the amazing battery life of this little beast. Without the energy-consuming processor and the unending updates of the Windows OS, the battery lasts up to 11 hours. That is massive considering the price point but then again Chromebooks are hailed for their superb battery life.
Weighing at 3.3 lbs. and less than one inch thickness, enables this Chromebook to be carried around anywhere seamlessly. The webcam is 720P, and is decent enough for a Skype calling session. The speaker quality is surprisingly loud and clear for a chrome book. Another plus point!

3. Acer Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA
“Best For Starters”
If you are someone who doesn’t care much about bells and whistles on the laptops – and only want something basic that can get the job done in low price bracket, Acer Aspire 1 is right up your alley!
Unlike above mentioned chrome books, this one is a windows enabled laptop. So if you are a windows OS fan, only then you should opt for this machine.
Encased in black olive plastic casing, the build quality is not something out of the ordinary; but it’s pretty satisfying considering what you pay. The hinge is quite stable and the screen has wide rotation range in order to avoid the accidental snapping that is expected when you have kids hanging around.
Fueled with 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron N4000 dual core processor, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage, the Aspire 1 is a machine well-fitted for your day to day tasks. Be it browsing the internet, doing your homework, using Microsoft office or even coding, it has something to offer for everyone.
The standout point of Acer Aspire 1 is its display that is 1080p; which is higher if we compare it to its counterpart HP stream 14 in similar price range. The pictures are brighter and vivid plus the 14” wide LED back-lit display is more than adequate if you intend to watch some YouTube video or stream Netflix.
The processing speed is surprisingly fast and the page responsiveness is superb while using the internet. This little beast also comes with a free 1 year subscription of office 365 suite which lets you save some bucks while letting you get your basic tasks done right out of the box.
The battery life is nothing to write home about. You get 6.5 hours of battery life which is acceptable if not exceptional. Enabled with windows 10 S mode, it only lets you download the apps from Microsoft store. But you needn’t worry because you can upgrade to windows 10 full version without any hassle – and it’s free of cost.
The keyboard seems quite sturdy and big so the typing experience is pleasant. Although, the keyboard has a learning curve to it because of the newly placed array of keys at right edge of the keyboard. The touch Pad is decent and responsive plus it gets the job done quite fairly.
The Microsoft edge browser lets you surf the internet without worrying about viruses and malware thanks to the built-in security features of the edge. Downward facing speakers are adequate enough to produce satisfactory sound quality.
- Now let’s talk about the assortment of USB ports offered by ACER Aspire 1:
- 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0 Ports
- Gigabit Ethernet port
- Kensington lock
- An HDMI output
- SD card reader
- Combo microphone and headphone jack
The Acer Aspire 1 is ideal for social media, word processing and watching videos. At this price point, you can’t expect anything grand. The 1080p display is defiantly a plus compared to other devices at similar price range so if display is your focus point, I recommend getting this machine.

4. HP Chromebook 11-V020NR
“Best For Pros”
The world has become a global village and we, as a generation, are largely dependent on internet. Come to think of it, there is not much you can do on your laptop and mobile without internet. Luckily, for everyday basic tasks, we don’t need to depend on MacBook or high-end expensive machines.
HP Chromebook is a machine designed to cover all your online needs. It is 2 in 1 laptop with a touch screen so basically, it’s an enhanced version of a tablet with a keyboard. For certain reasons, it is more dependable than a tablet thanks to the efficient and secure ChromeOS.
Armed with 1.6 GHz dual core processor, 4 GB RAM and 16 GB emmc storage, this 2 in 1 laptop is a convenient little machine for people who are on a tight budget. From word processing, online work, watching videos to playing light games – this Chromebook serves as a cellphone in a laptop.
The touch screen is surprisingly sensitive and accurate which certainly enhances the user experience and adds more convenience to your daily tasks. Fitted with an IPS display, this laptop offers better color reproduction with broader viewing angles.
It is noteworthy to mention, that the screen doesn’t bend all the way down like a tablet.
Moreover, the chromeOS is refreshingly fast and doesn’t lag behind much like windows laptop. Also, the updates are not annoying which is a big headache in windows.
The battery on this entry-level chrome book has enough juice to last up to 11 hours, according to the HP. That also depends on the usage. Battery wise, the chromebook 11 definitely exceeds the expectations.
The touchpad is a bit problematic considering the fact that you have to press down hard on the button to make it work. The keyboard has a nice layout and over all the keys have smooth finishing while being well-placed.
Let’s get a look the collection of Ports HP chromebook 11 has to offer:
- 2 USB 3.1 Ports
- An HDMI port
- 1 SD Card reader
- 1 combination audio jack
I would highly recommend this laptop to people who love the comfort and functionality offered by touchscreen. The build quality is also impressive and doesn’t come off as cheap. All in all, you will not get a better deal at this price bracket in the market given the features. Besides, you can always beef up on the limited storage capacity.

5. Dell Inspiron C3181
“Best For Her”
At this time, when every brand is launching Chromebooks, Dell has also made their entry into the world of chrome books. Dell inspiron chromebook 11.6” is one of the lower priced units by Dell. We all know that descent in price equals to descent in quality but surprisingly, Dell Inspiron Chromebook is well-featured, good quality laptop.
It is not the most attractive unit by Dell but as we all know Dell is more about performance than appearance. Dell Inspiron is not an eye-sore either but in this price bracket, you can’t really pick and choose. Enclosed in black plastic, the exterior seems well-built and sturdy that is strong enough to shrug off any occasional blows and bumps.
Fueled with 1.6 GHz Dual-core processor, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, the Inspiron Chromebook is not lacking in anything particular. It has enough power to tackle basic tasks like word processing, surfing the web and streaming the videos. Heavy websites may take a while to load, though.
The lackluster display is probably the only downside of this chromebook. At 11.6” wide display, with 1366×768 resolution, the images are not exactly bright although the HD display is adequate enough for simple tasks. But then again, you can complaint much because it a fair deal at this price.
The keyboard quality is satisfactory with responsive and large keys that get a bit noisy while you are typing furiously. The track pad is not the most responsive one in the market but it does its job efficiently being receptive to the commands.
The trademark dell battery life never disappoints and even in their low priced unit like this one, battery lasts for up to 10 hours. Wi-Fi connectivity is impressive which is a critical feature to have; because of the web-based chromeOS.
Variety of Ports are available for connectivity and expansion in Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11. Let’s take a quick peak:
- 1 USB 3.0 Ports
- An HDMI port
- 1 Media card reader
- 1 combination audio jack
People who would love the reliability of Dell machines but want to opt for a chromebook, should defiantly give this gadget a try. Durability, speed and functionality is what Dell Inspiron Chromebook 11 is all about.

6. ASUS L402WA-EH21
With a straight-forward and lean profile, ASUS EH21 is a budget laptop that is more like a chromebook but with windows 10 S as the operating system. Students and frequent travelers will find this laptop more appealing. If you are expecting to play heavy-duty game or decoding, I should warn you, this is not your cup of tea.
With 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB flash, the storage is competent enough to tackle your homework, stream some Netflix and surf the internet. This machine can very well handle 5, 6 Google chrome tabs along with a 1080p video stream. But stretch it any more than that and it will start to slow down a bit.
The overall outlook of this laptop is high-quality considering the price bracket. Besides, it doesn’t give the vibes of a cheap plastic toy like most fake machines in the market. The dark grey upper cover looks appealing and the build quality is also satisfactory without any sharp-edges.
We are not particularly mad about the display and the color quality on the screen. It is not exceptional but then again, you can’t expect the exceptional in this price. With 1366×768 resolution, the display is not the brightest and vivid. Although, we do love the extended 14’ screen that it features.
The laptop comes with Windows 10 S version that doesn’t let you download apps via any third party app store. But you can quickly upgrade to windows 10 Pro to prevent the hassle.
The upgraded touch-screen technology, used by ASUS in the making of touch-pad, makes it more intuitive and responsive which is a great feature to have. You can also swipe and use gestures for quick commands.
The keyboard feels deep and the keys, although plastic, feel comfortable while typing.
The battery life is quite decent, albeit, a bit lacking compared to other laptops in the list. You can expect 6-7 hours of battery life on the full charge. Not a bad deal, altogether.
Placed under the palm rest, the speakers are decent enough to produce solid sound and provide you an immersive experience while you are listening to your favorite song.
Let’s see what ports have we got in this ASUS budget laptop:
- USB-c Connector
- USB 3.0, USB 2.0 ports
- An HDMI port
- SD card reader
Bottom line is that this mini budget laptop is fairly suitable for anyone who wants a side laptop for casual stuff. If you can beef up on the storage, it can turn into quite a handy machine. Touch pad is phenomenal, keyboard is comfortable – I would say it makes a great machine for a writer!

7. HP Chromebook 14-AK050NR
“Huge & High Quality Display”
White signifies class and makes anyone stand out from the crowd. HP Chromebook 14 is an attractive machine encased in an all-white plastic body. For people who love white and want a sleek and modern machine meant to draw attention without breaking the bank, this Chromebook 14 by HP is what is missing in your life.
Now don’t expect the unexpected at this price point. Chromebooks are exclusively web-based devices that are adequate enough to meet all your online needs and some basic mundane tasks like word processing, light gaming etc. Besides we live in a digitized era, don’t we?
Equipped with Intel Celeron N2940 1.83 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM and 16 GB eMMc storage, HP chromebook 14 is compatible enough to tackle not-so-technical, day-to-day tasks. The storage is rather limited but you can always get it augmented.
The 14-inch display of Chromebook 14 furnished with 1920x1080p LED-lit screen is something we don’t see on many budget laptops and HP surely outdid themselves in this department. You can see minute details in the videos and pictures are vivid and clear too. Although, the screen is a bit dim but sharp pixels make up for that.
The 10 second boot and the snappy web performance of ChromeOS is a welcome change for many windows users. With your Google account, you will have all your data in one place which is accessible on your laptop in a jiffy. Really convenient and uber-fast!
The spacious white keyboard feels comfy while typing. Keys have great travel and you find yourself enjoying while using the keyboard. Touchpad is also sensitive, and is not annoying like those cheap good-for-nothing touchpads that you have to press multiple times.
Plus, to top all this off, HP chromebook 14 has an amazing battery life that can easily last for a day. Considering the cost, this is some outstanding performance on HP’s part.
The build quality is durable and it can stand a drop or two. Although the white exterior looks quite posh, there is only one aspect I am concerned about: neatness. Especially when kids are around, you need to be a bit careful otherwise white tends to get messy pretty quickly.
Let’s take a mandatory tour of the USB collection on the HP chromebook 14:
- 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port
- An HDMI port
- Media reader
- Microphone/headphone combination jack
HP chromebook14 is an absolute winner in terms of looks, performance and portability. You have got an extended display, an all-white stylish body and a long battery life – all while staying in budget. It doesn’t get any better than this and that is evident from the raving reviews related to Chrome book 14.
- Intel Celeron N2940 1.83 GHz Processor
- 4 GB SDRAM
- 16 GB eMMC, No Optical Drive
- 14-Inch 1920x1080 pixel LED-lit Screen
- Chrome OS, Refer user manual below.
8. Lenovo Thinkpad 20DAS0TX00
“Sensitive & Responsive Touchscreen”
A touchscreen is way better compared to a keyboard and touchpad combo in a number of applications. This is why the ThinkPad Yoga 11e is a highly-recommended laptop available right around the $200 price range.
The Yoga 11e wouldn’t get any beauty points, but the body is quite sturdy and strong which makes it a great option for outdoors. It’s safe to say that the average bump here and there will have no effect on the laptop.
The processing power on the laptop isn’t capable of intense tasks like video-editing or mobile app development. However, anything other than that would just work fine. Word/sheets processing, internet browsing, software development, and light photo editing is possible on the Yoga 11e.
The 720p display is a mood killer, but considering what you’re getting for $200 makes up for it. Moreover, the viewing angles on the display panel are phenomenal. The IPS Touchscreen technology on the display works as a fluid and we became a huge fan after using it for just half an hour. The touch is one of the highlights of the ThinkPad Yoga 11e.
The keyboard doesn’t include a Numpad, which isn’t surprising. The keys themselves have a satisfying soft travel and are spaced out appropriately. This makes the Yoga 11e a great option for writers and typists who are frequently on the move.
The touchpad is quite large and does an absolutely wonderful job of tracking movement and taps. During our testing, we didn’t feel the need to connect an external keyboard and mouse at all, which is a significant thing when it comes to laptops. Lenovo has successfully nailed the user experience of the laptop.
The HD webcam is more than enough for video calls on Skype or WhatsApp; we wouldn’t recommend it for video capturing for your YouTube channel though. The speakers on the Yoga 11e aren’t loud enough. Like any other laptop in this price range, they lacked bass and depth too.
The biggest flaw for us was battery life. The Yoga 11e has had battery life problems from the start. The laptop lasts just over 3 hours of casual usage in a single charge.
Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga has bunch of ports for connectivity:
- 2 USB 3.1
- 1 USB 3.1 Type-C
- An HDMI Out
- SD Card Slot
- RJ45 Ethernet
- 3.5mm Audio Jack
- Yoga 2-in-1 convertible ultrabook

9. Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-532-C8DF
“15 Inch Screen”
The Chromebook 15 has a sleek and elegant design with an aluminum body. Acer’s fan less system used in the Chromebook 15 is an absolute win for many. No need to worry about fans ramping up and overheating.
With an Intel Celeron dual-core processor paired with 4 gigs of main memory, you can do just about anything on this laptop except intensive tasks like video editing and gaming. If you are the kind of person who needs to take care of word processing, watch movies, and browse frequently, the Chromebook 15 fits just right for you.
The Intel HD 400 sub-chiplet is a pretty powerful GPU when compared with mobile-based solutions. In simpler words, you can play intensive android games with ease on the Chromebook 15. Since Google’s ChromeOS comes with the Google Play Store, you don’t even have to scour the internet for cracked .APK files either.
The speakers on this model are a huge step up from the ones used in the older model. The sound quality is above par and is loud enough even for mildly noisy areas. Combine this with 12 hours of battery life, and you’ve got an amazing laptop to roam around with all day without worrying about recharging.
The 16 GB built-in memory cap did ruin our mood in the beginning. Downloading a movie in 1080 easily used up over 4 gigs of the internal storage. However, the Acer Chromebook 15 does feature a MicroSD card slot, which made a world of difference during our testing.
The keyboard on the Chromebook 15 is well spread out. Typing is quite comfortable and you won’t feel like your fingers need to be crammed together. The keys aren’t exactly Cherry MX switches, but they are quite responsive and feel natural under your fingertips.
The touchpad was by far the worst thing on the surface of the laptop. You would have to press your finger in order to accurately track its movements and the touchpad might miss a finger tap often. Moreover, Right-clicking was a particularly hard task to perform on it.
Let’s take a mandatory Port tour of Acer Chromebook 2018 below:
- 2x USB 3.0 Type-A Ports
- 1x HDMI Out
- 1x VGA Out
- 1x Multi Card Slot
- 1x RJ45 LAN Port
- 2.5mm Audio Jack
As the technology behind the lightweight laptops improved, the laptop market has started seeing Chromebooks as strong competition. Many myths about chromebooks regarding their speed, reliability and performance have been debunked already. Acer Chromebook is one of the cheapest Chromebooks you can buy today.

10. HP Elite book 840 G1
We have covered a number of laptops in this list. It’s time to discuss one of the most powerful laptops you can get your hands on within the $200 price range.
The Elitebook 840 G1 has stylish and classy looks featuring a shiny aluminum body. The laptop was designed with strength in mind as it is a mobile workstation and it needs to be strong enough to survive the harsh handling every traveling laptop gets. HP has done a great job of making sure that the laptop won’t easily get busted.
The 4th-generation Core i5 powering the Elitebook 840 G1 is an extremely fast processor. Combined with 8 gigs of RAM, you can easily do heavy photo editing, mobile app development, and other processor-hungry tasks with ease on the laptop.
Another area where HP did a great job is the battery life of the workstation. On casual usage, the laptop can easily last for over 4 hours and you can further increase the uptime by reducing the brightness or putting the device on power saver mode. Getting 5 hours out of the laptop was pretty easy.
Having no Numpad was a problem for us as this laptop is great for developers, sheets managers, and webmasters and not having a Numpad reduces the efficiency of their work. The keyboard overall is very satisfying and comfortable to type on. The keys have a very noticeable traversal and are spaced out perfectly, making the laptop a great option for typists too.
The speaker grill is present above the keyboard and if you keep the hinge at 90 degrees or less, the backfiring sound will be pretty loud, clear, and crisp. You can enjoy watching movies and listening to music without a headset during our testing.
As for the touchpad, HP has been doing a great job of using seamless and smooth touchpads on its laptops. The Elitebook 840 G1 is no exception. Your finger won’t get stuck on the surface at all and even the lightest of finger taps are easily detected by the module.
Let’s check out the port collection on the elitebook:
- 4 USB 3.0 Type-A
- 1 USB 3.0 Type-C
- HDMI Out
- Multi Card Slot
- RJ45 LAN
- Fingerprint Reader
- 3.5mm Audio Jack
